A few years ago, @fortunatefarm received a grant from @goodfarmfund to build this greenhouse. It’s the farm’s nursery — they use it to propagate all of their veggie and plant starts. 🌱 So excited to see it springing with new life! This is why we do what we do. Vinegar babies all grown up and ready for new mamas. Deliveries this week! These are the easiest babies ever to raise, and the best way to get ride of leftover red wine. Instructions for how to care for your vinegar mothers: Remove the lid top and replace with a paper towel or cheese cloth secured by the jar rim only, to let oxygen in and keep fruit flies out. Every so often (whenever you have red wine around) feed with this ratio: 2/3 wine, 1/3 water. Store in a cool dark place like the pantry and whenever you remember it’s there, taste it and see if it’s vinegary- enough. Move into a larger jar if needed. Gowan and I snuck away on a writing retreat to reinvigorate the @eatmendocino book effort. 5 years later it’s been totally amazing to revisit our lives and this project and see how young and chubby-cheeked, brazen and unafraid we were. How much awesome shit we did. How hard it was. How beautiful and absurd it was. All this reminiscing, flipcharting, note taking, laughing, list-making, and cooking has pulled us back into the magic and totally re-inspired us to share it. Just picked up a flat of garden starts from @nyeranch and couldn’t be prouder of the impact that @goodfarmfund has had on this local farm and so many others. I got goosebumps when Kyle took me on a tour of the seaside greenhouse that their Good Farm Fund grant financed, which has been a game-changer for their production and helps them provide our community with the most *stunning* vegetables and flowers. Good Fam Fund also funded the construction of their adorable roadside farm stand. This is what community looks like. This is why our GFF team volunteers countless hours to recruit sponsors and produce fabulous farm to table fundraising events to celebrate the joy of food and make sure our local farms have resources to help them scale production.
