herbert west is not one for desperation. he is above that, and begging is unprofessional. but the closest he gets to it is handing dan meg's heart and telling him they will create something with it. later on, he will describe each part of the bride with uncharacteristic detail, talking about desires dan could have had and ones herbert does not. he pulls and plays with the bride's hands, moving a desirable body with intention.

herbert west does not fall to his knees or grab at dan, begging for him to stay until his voice gives out, but that is his closest equivalent.

One of the reasons why I love Re-Animator so much (and why it’s so queer) is because of how genre-bending it is!

We get introduced to our protagonist, Daniel, who is your pretty typical heroic figure. He’s extremely smart (in med school), conventionally attractive, heterosexual & traditionally masculine, and his main character flaw is that he cares TOO MUCH about his patients to the point where having them die on him is challenging for him.

Then, we enter Herbert. He’s got all the markings of a queer-coded villain. Not traditionally masculine, anti-social from the jump, with extremely suspicious circumstances of why he’s in Arkham in the first place. He inserts himself into the narrative & Dan’s life by becoming his roommate when Dan doesn’t know about his experiments.

In a lot of media, this would be the setup— Dan would find out about Herbert’s experiments, find them morally wrong/maybe listen to his girlfriend, and work to stop Herbert. But Nope!! We come to find out Dan caring too much abt his patients runs far deeper than we previously thought- to the point where he’s willing to join in on Herbert’s reanimation experiments and commit like 15 felonies with him.
