I wrote a 700+ word rant because I was very annoyed by the Fighter questline in Mabinogi.
Background context: One has to do the Fighter questline in order to obtain Fighter skills, and sometimes re-do them if they're building up an alternate account. However, the Fighter questline is one of the worst stories I've ever had the misfortune to play through. Hence, I express my frustration.
To Cecilia, Ysolte, and Mina:
Your mothers went through untold hardships to give birth to you but you didn't bring them even one moment of pride, even Morrighan and Nao have abandoned you, the upperclassmen in your school days ignored you, your colleagues next door after work forgot you, babies would wilt away from your hugs because the three of you would be fighting over who gets to hold it in order to demonstrate your "motherly abilities" and drop it right on it's soft skull in the process, the stranger hanging off the edge of the cliff would reject your outstretched hand, so you can only beg for attention from the Milletian who is obligated by binary code in their programming to help you, clowns.
Your incapability of making decisions for yourself disappoints me and your incessant demands for a third party to take on the responsibility of basic conversational communication between the three of you causes me to look upon you with disgust. It is an almost universal experience where your combined behavioral patterns makes every Milletian dream of there being a world where their quest can be completed by watching the bandits drop your health to 0. The only impressive ability you possess is the ability to profoundly annoy others, and you would be better off in lifelong employment at a maximum security prison as a mental torture method for criminals.
"Horrifying" Herbert should've eaten you like he eats bars of granola, your suggestion of turning the wagon around once you see bandits as if they won't give chase is illogical, your insistence of appearing as if you had everything under control despite doing negative 1 damage to any bandit in the cutscene is annoying, your accusation of the Milletian being unhelpful despite them doing 99.9% of all the required damage against the enemies is infuriating, your pointing out how seeing others crying hurts Keane's feelings yet proceeding to hurt Keane's feelings yourself is hypocritical, none of you are capable of Commerce, your attempt at baiting the Milletian by projecting your personal feelings about your face on them is laughable, your attempt at buttering up said Milletian with shallow, false compliments is pathetic, your refusal to gather information about your target yourself and making others do your dirty work is cowardice, your plot to make Keane take a day off fending off bandits yet holding the party in a space used for training and fighting is unsound, your complaints about the Milletian "taking so long" despite them having access to pets that can traverse the entirety of Iria in 1 minute while your own top speed is 10 pixels an hour is unreasonable, your crocodile tears that you shed when you claimed you knew how badly you were treating the Milletian dried right up when you begged for them to do the cooking for you, your claims of not asking for any more favors were immediately vetoed by proceeding to ask for more favors.
Tasks that would've taken you less than 10 steps in total to complete you foisted off onto the Milletian which was absurd, even Glewyas called you out on your lack of etiquette which hasn't changed since your childhood, your repeated attempts to guilt trip the Milletian into doing work for you are senseless, your forceful way of trying to get Keane to eat your food instead of the others' food by slapping it away is childish, you were infuriatingly close to self awareness about your behavior being a burden, ditching you both immediately when Herbert showed up would have put an end to all this madness, you were all useless in protecting the one person you're supposed to be obsessed with against kidnappers, your proceeding to blame the Milletian for your own fallacies is irrational, your collective combat ability in every single cutscene amounts to nothing, your reckless confidence immediately doing a 180 to crippling insecurity for some reason is ridiculous, your attempt to get the Milletian on your side by playing the woe is me I'm the weakest card comes off as foolish, every option we were allowed to make in this entire story was fatuous, the entire questline was the least satisfactory and most unbearable thing I have ever had the misfortune of coming across in my entire 3 years of playing this game, and I hope dearly for an option to remove the NPCs from ever appearing post-questline completion ever again to be implemented in the future.
The Mabinogi Renovation Season 7 Update allowed me to put cat ears and a cat tail on my Ranald butler partner and sit together with him on chairs. No longer will he be unable to interact with chairs. This is pretty nice ...
