When things seem hard, what quote do you use to keep going?

I’ve actually got an entire page dedicated to favorite quotes https://echojunction.tumblr.com/quotesBut something not on that list is from an episode of “Firefly”.  Mal is talking to Simon, who has just pointed out all the things going wrong.  Mal says “We’re still flying.”  Simon responds, “That’s not much.”Mal says, “It’s enough.”

As an educator, what do you think is the most important thing to teach your students?

OH. THIS IS A GOOD ONE.

This took a little bit of pondering for me.  I think the most important thing a teacher can impart is love.  Seriously.  Not just loving their students, but actively teaching their students how to love one another.  There are a million ways to do it.  Everything from humanizing yourself, to intervening with bullying, to showing the kids love...the list goes on.  I know it’s cheesy, but watching children who used to be jerks turn around and being kind to their peers is probably the most powerful thing I’ve ever seen as an educator.  The book learning can come later.  Learn to be good people, and the rest will follow naturally.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

An anon?  I haven’t gotten one of these in a LONG time.

Let’s see...I see myself, PhD in hand, working diligently to advance humanity’s understanding of intrinsic motivation.  I hope I have a partner of some kind?  I’ve got a decent apartment, maybe a house, and if I’ve managed that I probably have a truck to park next to my Subaru.  I’ve gotten a bit better at some useful hobbies like repairing more things.  Maybe I built a tiny house, or a camper, or something.  And I will have gone on a LOT more adventures.
