Sarah Mary Taylor was taught to piece quilts as a child by her mother Pearlie Posey. In 1979, her search for “something different” led to boldly colored quilts appliquéd with forms inspired by images found in magazines, catalogues, and newspapers, as well as common everyday objects. For this quilt, Taylor traced her hand onto paper to use as a template for shapes cut from old dresses and applied these to squares of fabric and vertical strips. Taylor made later versions of this quilt, one of which was commissioned for the 1985 film adaptation of Alice Walker’s novel “The Color Purple.” “’Hands’” Quilt,“ Winter 1980, by Sarah Mary Taylor
Stella came out pretty great! I was so scared Id mess up the sweater when I got to the flowers, but we did it boys 🌿🌼🌿
This is a very lovely project.... Well done! 🌸
Time for a new series! Starting today, the theme is: Dinosaurs.
This, the first one, is the classic Velociraptor: a small little desert dinosaur with famously sharp claws. It’s one I knew I had to include. 😊 The colors here are modeled after a kori bustard, a modern-day savanna and desert bird.
This pattern is up on my Etsy, and there will be at least six more after it. The next one will be posted on Wednesday!

Okay okay. I know that’s too many pebble posts today. 🙃 I don’t promise that tomorrow will be pebble-free, though… 🤪 https://www.instagram.com/p/B_UYaJjHB-d/?igshid=1efsbcdkb4qug

A little up-cycling project marrying a plastic trivet from a ready meal (being black plastic, it is not recyclable) - and my fledgling skills at dimensional embroidery.
To make the whole project visually appealing, I glued a piece of scrap fabric and embroidered through it.
Despite the limitations imposed by the trivet, I think the result is not too bad.
Happy birthday to Horace Pippin, who was born on this day in 1888. Pippin was a self-taught artist and known for painting African American life and the brutal reality of war. Learn more in our “Horace Pippin: From War to Peace” installation. http://ow.ly/Qd3O30qjF4F

Waiting for Spring to arrive ....
Little bee motif from a bigger sampler.
My latest dorset button. I used a very vibrant nylon cord and some beads. A used curtain ring as mold.
Will wear it as a necklace.
Lately, I have been learning how to make Dorset buttons.
It is very relaxing & a great excuse to play with some nice yarn.
I’ve upcycled some metal washers for the shapes and turned them into necklaces.
A close up of the starfish brooch. I didn’t stitch down the points so it would look like it could crawl out of the frame. #broochesareback #broochesofinstagram #goldworkembroidery #metalthreadembroidery https://www.instagram.com/p/B4r4W0NHcXU/?igshid=pa0mmq8znsdf
