Do you guys think the girlfriend trope fits Mike?

The girlfriend trope is often used in anime, cartoons, movies, and tv shows. This trope is used to describe a woman or girl who is literally nothing but a background love interest for our main character/s. They have no hobbies or personality, they have nothing going for them. Sometimes they’re even used as a scapegoat and/or antagonist when needed. (Mike is often used to give Jane and Will some form of angst both in canon AND fanon.)

Just a random thought honestly.

Mike trying out different styles in college, genuinely loving every single one and switching it up every once in a while.

His friends visit and catch Mike wearing his mcbling/y2k style (I know these weren’t a thing yet but we’re gonna pretend they were for the plot)

ANOTHER THING:

The fake dating scenario? Mike would have felt betrayed by Will, his best friend and someone he’s in love with manipulated him into coming out OUT OF FEAR OF LOSING HIM.

The one person who means the world to Mike played on his fears just to get what he wanted. That’s not Will Byers, that’s Vecna wearing Will’s face and I’m tired of people pretending it’s not.

Can I admit something? I hate the whole “Mike has to work for/earn Will’s love” thing. I genuinely, GENUINELY hate that trope so badly.

I also don’t like it when people write Will fake dating a person to force Mike to come out or have the party get irritated when Mike doesn’t come out at THEIR pace. it’s not funny, it never will be.

It’s never going to be funny to force a queer person to come out with the fear they may lose the person they love or have all their feelings invalidated by their friends for not coming out sooner.

Time travel au anyone?

Mike time traveling to the beginning of season 3, he comes back with all his scars though (they’re so ingrained into him they can’t disappear)

The party freaking out and asking where the scars came from but don’t get any straight answers, Mike is too busy making plans to stop Vecna and the MF to give his poor party any reassurances.

Will visits the college Mike goes to and witnesses some guy coming up to flirt with Mike, Will expects Mike to turn the guy down and tell him he’s straight, only to do a double take at the fond smile on the other boy’s face.

Will learns that day that not only is Mike gay, he’s also in love with someone already and has the guy’s name tattooed on his lower back.

Will bringing Carlton over and the entire Party HATES him, he hasn't even done anything besides say hi. Will has no idea why they hate his boyfriend so much, at least he can count on Mike being normal about Carlton.

(Mike is trying to be a supportive but the party is making it very difficult, he just wants Will to be happy. ignore the heartbreak)

Mike is given the opportunity to be with Will but! He has to go through time and experience everything Will did in order to earn Will’s love.

Mike takes everything thrown at him, because if this horrible ache in his heart is how he made his sorcerer feel, then Mike deserves every bad thing he gets. He takes it because Will is worth the pain and heartbreak.

(Will would be horrified if he knew what Mike agreed to, his silly boy thinks hurting himself will finally make him worthy of love.)

Miscommunication + a/o/b + one person thinks they’re dating the other.

Beta Mike and Alpha Will, they’re roommates at the same college and Mike truly believes he’s dating Will. It’s not helped by Will taking him out on dates and giving him courting jewelry that Mike wears with pride.

Then Omega Carlton enters the picture, Will starts spending more and more time with him, making Mike believe he’s leaving him for a “real mate” who can give him everything Mike can’t (mating bite, biological babies, scent marking.)

Will has no idea what’s going on when Mike starts avoiding him and backing out of plans, saying he’s busy with projects. He gets so frustrated because Mike’s not talking to him and Will can’t smell when his friend is distressed, he also can’t use his Alpha voice because he refuses to force Mike into talking.

Will, time travels back to the van scene: okay, don't mess this up!

Mike somehow thinks Will is confessing to him via painting, he breaks up with Jane and the whole event with saving Max goes much better than before. Mike now thinks they're dating and starts acting like his S2 self before he and Jane got together, following Will around like a puppy and being the heart of the party again.

Will: wait what just happened-

Steve: why did you hate me dating Nancy but love Jonathan dating her?

Mike: I hated you because you took my sister away and turned her into an asshole, you were horrible for her. You were also a douche to Jonathan.

Steve: hey now-

Mike: I love Jonathan because he brought my sister back, he loves her with his whole being and managed to get my sister to return that feeling.

—Nancy and Jonathan—

Nancy: oh…

Jonathan: that explains so much actually-

Will starts hanging out with Carlton and his friends more, most days he doesn’t even come home until the next day. Mike was supportive at first, he was proud of his boyfriend making friends but….now the apartment is empty and lonely.

Mike doesn’t dare ruin this with his whining though, he’s ruined enough things for Will, this one thing will stay untainted by him. Mike gets used to dates being canceled or anniversaries being forgotten or waking up to Will not being in bed.

He’s so used to it he forgets he’s dating someone half the time, the other half is convinced Will left him for Carlton.
