The Best Structures of Burning Man 2018
As Burning Man 2018 comes to a close, snapshots and glimpses of the event have begun to emerge in the mediasphere. The most recognizable among these is, perhaps, BIG’s Orb, a hovering sphere representing a scaled version of the earth itself.
For many a highlight of the event is the installations, this year following the theme “I, Robot.” Referencing Isaac Asmiov’s short story of the same name, installations include the Orb, Baba Yaga’s House, the Cosmic Voyager, and the Temple Galaxia.

R. Buckminster Fuller: Inventions and Models
R. Buckminster Fuller (1895-1983) was a renowned 20th century inventor and visionary born in Milton, Massachusetts. Dedicating his life to making the world work for all of humanity, Fuller operated as a practical philosopher who demonstrated his ideas as inventions that he called “artifacts.”

Fictional Architecture
As special effects budgets continue to grow, the architectural wonders that TV, film and video game producers create seem to get more and more impressive.
From the castles of Westeros to the imaginative, colorful designs of Studio Ghibli, they compiled some of the most iconic and interesting architectural feats that they feel best represent six of their favorite fictional universes. In order to capture the finer details and the feel of each building, they’ve illustrated each one with a pen and paper – and they are pretty happy with the results!

Z House - ILLUMIKA

Z House is a CLT (cross-laminated timber) prefabricated house situated within a forest with several mature pines. When moving throughout the residence, different views are open to the viewer, merging the interiors into nature. In the central core of the building is a semitransparent wooden box with two-floors dedicated to daytime activities and leisure. In the evening, the box glows from inside creating the mood throughout the house. Blog | MORE #ARCHITECTURE

Contemporary Mirrored Architecture
When glass-sheathed corporate skyscrapers first started bouncing kaleidoscopic visions of architectural angles off their sleek façades in the 1960s, architects began to think about the possibilities of mirrored glass as a material. Half invisible, illuminated by light, a trick yet also a device, the mirror has alleviated architecture somewhat from its heaviness. It’s helped architects loosen up and have some fun too – expanding our relationships with urban and rural contexts, providing invisibility, camouflage and immersion.
