Good eats from Toronto. Arteries are well clogged. I regret nothing!
I was watching one of those late night dating infomercials and this girl pops up. She was simulating sex and then this happened. I don’t want to know what they’re trying to insinuate here…
Correction, This might take the cake in best restroom sign... EVER!
Possibly the best restroom sign ever!
The Genius of Korean BBQ Restaurants!
A couple of days ago my brother's and sister's treated me out for dinner to a Korean BBQ place in the city. Naturally I’m excited of the thought of free food so I was more than happy at the idea. Another reason for being excited was because I have never eaten at a Korean BBQ place where you cook your own food. The cynical side of me was thinking that if I wanted to cook my own food I would of just stayed home and you know… cook my own food. But I’m not that cynical. I was more hungry than cynical so I welcomed the idea with open arms. When we walked in to the restaurant we were greeted and seated. We got the "all you can eat" special for 10 bucks which was pretty much a steal, in my book. Then again I wasn’t paying so it didn’t really matter. We got the beef, chicken and pork with a side of white rice. The food was great! Better than great actually. I wasn’t expecting much to strategically keep my expectations low. But what they had to offer was more than enough to satisfy me and my family. As I was cooking my beef that had been marinating in some type of seasoned sauce; an epiphany hit me like a ton of dead cows. Who ever decided to popularize this must of been a genius! They got a good thing going here. If you ever eaten at a Benihana then this must be a direct opposite of that. Instead of the chef’s cooking your food in front of you while doing some cool stuff with the rice bowls, they make you, the guest, cook the food and hope for the best; which would sound like backwards thinking but no! People enjoy this stuff! Hell I love this stuff. Imagine the person who invented this. The person was either a relentless dreamer with aspirations soaring to the skies or a VERY lazy chef. I’m kidding of course. I don’t want to take anything away from the culture because, like I said I actually do like the whole idea of it. It’s just that the whole things seems funny to me.
For the people working there, all they need to do is to supply the meats and assorted appetizers and the rest we do our selves. A little kimchee here and some tofu there and that’s pretty much it. Call it a day. While I was eating I saw a man in a chef uniform with the regular white get-up come out of the back and go to the restroom across the hall. That blew my mind! The questions I had for this man. What do you exactly do here? We’re over here cooking the meal, what’s your place here? Is there even a grill in the back? It was insane. Another question comes to mind. Do you have to have at least minimal experience cooking food, in the off chance one would not know what uncooked meat would look like? The reason why a person would eat out in the first place, besides indulging in guilty pleasures, would either be because the person's to lazy to cook or doesn't know how. I’m assuming they're prepared for such things otherwise it wouldn’t work. And it does, tremendously! People love it. People love to go out of the comfort of there own home to cook food at a restaurant and socialize, me being one of those people. This isn’t to be taken seriously. This is just a thought I had while eating at this Korean BBQ place. This is their gimmick, their shtik if you will. And that’s culinary genius at it’s finest!
This is my very first short film I made a couple of years back. When I first showcased this in my film class people enjoyed it and actually said it was good. I don't believe that in the slightest but I'm my own worst critic. Compared to what I know now, I can say that this is pretty much a travesty but I love it nonetheless. The white balance is totally off and I don't know WHAT'S going on in some of the editing but it's still my baby. I still love some shots in this short and if I had another chance to tackle this one I would but some things are better to be left undisturbed.
Fun Fact: Cops were called at the location we were shooting and held me and my crew at gunpoint thinking that we were a bunch a lunatics in army gear. After I explained the situation we were told to continue filming and shared a laugh with the officers. It was the first time I came face to face with a shotgun barrel and I was seconds away of wetting my undergarments. Guerrilla shooting at it's finest ladies and gentlemen.
Hello there people of the internet! This is sort of an introduction for me. I'm still getting the hang of this Tumblr stuff so just keep that in mind. Let see... A little about myself... My name is Erik Razal and I'm an upcoming film maker, writer, cinematographer, comedian and pretty much anything that involves entertaining the masses. (And by me saying I'm a comedian, I mean that I think I'm funny, so that makes me a comedian.) I was born in Toronto, Canada and currently reside in Los Angeles, CA. I wanted THIS to be my first post ever on this thing but I still have no clue what I'm doing here. I'll try to post regularly and get used to this beast they call Tumblr. So... uh... yeah follow me and I hope to not let you down.
