Big math news! It’s been thirty years since mathematicians last found a convex pentagon that could “tile the plane.” The latest discovery (by Jennifer McLoud-Mann, Casey Mann, and David Von Derau) was published earlier this month. Full story.

Fan artist imagines Sophie Turner as Jean Grey in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’
The actress is best known as the red-haired Sansa Stark from Game of Thrones, although in reality she’s a natural blonde. It’s not a huge leap to imagine her with Jean Grey’s darker hair, so fanartist Bosslogic has tweeted some nifty photo edits to illustrate what she might look like in the movie.

Does the red thread refer to Chinese mythology? The matchmaker god Yuè Xià Lǎo is said to tie an invisible red thread of fate to two people destined to be lovers regardless of time or circumstance.

- Characters you wish would interact
Brienne of Tarth and Sansa Stark
After getting past their initial discomfort around each other, they would get on very well as their ideals of honor and chivalrous knighthood are the same. I’ve always felt that Brienne had more in common with Sansa than with the younger Stark daughter she’d often compared to. They could save each other.
Brienne is more like the knights Sansa was taught about than any man she has met. Maybe Brienne could restore some of Sansa's faith in knights (and society in general), though a bit altered from the stories she was told as a child. I really do hope they meet some day.

“I was in a department store and I was just in the lift, and the lift doors opened and this woman kind of looked at me and did a double take and just said ‘Khaleesi’.”
Fantasy is silver and scarlet, indigo and azure, obsidian veined with gold and lapis lazuli. Reality is plywood and plastic, done up in mud brown and olive drab. Fantasy tastes of habaneros and honey, cinnamon and cloves, rare red meat and wines as sweet as summer. Reality is beans and tofu, and ashes at the end. Reality is the strip malls of Burbank, the smokestacks of Cleveland, a parking garage in Newark. Fantasy is the towers of Minas Tirith, the ancient stones of Gormenghast, the halls of Camelot. Fantasy flies on the wings of Icarus, reality on Southwest Airlines. Why do our dreams become so much smaller when they finally come true? We read fantasy to find the colors again, I think. To taste strong spices and hear the songs the sirens sang. There is something old and true in fantasy that speaks to something deep within us, to the child who dreamt that one day he would hunt the forests of the night, and feast beneath the hollow hills, and find a love to last forever somewhere south of Oz and north of Shangri-La. They can keep their heaven. When I die, I’d sooner go to Middle-Earth.
