Prefers being in the background and was always really happy to let Matt Russo (his best friend and Kafka's frontman) have the attention. brief biography

Eddie grew up in a suburban neighborhood of Jersey City in a nice house and a middle class family, the child of a financial advisor (his mom) and a high school math teacher (his dad). He's the oldest of three kids, with a sister seven years younger than him and a brother in between. Because his parents both worked, they typically put Eddie in charge of his siblings, which, especially by the time he hit high school, impeded his freedom a lot. He's the type of person that resented his parents for it and tried not to misdirect his anger at his brother and sister, but they absolutely felt the consequences of it now and then, particularly in his junior and senior years. There was a lot of unhealthy stuff between him and his parents and whenever he could, Eddie spent a lot of time at his best friend Matt's house (who would end up being the frontman of Kafka). His parents were slightly insane and very conservative, but they recognized Eddie's parenting situation as being kind of dire and were always happy to have him over. His own parents were actually crazy, and would do things like locking him out of the house if he came home after curfew and snooping through his room for drugs. He has a terrible relationship with them these days, rarely goes to visit except for holidays, and has reached a point now where he knows there's never gonna be a relationship there and has accepted it. Kafkaesque started getting attention just after he and Matt and their two other friends in the band graduated high school in 2010/11ish. They released a few EPs and then finally their debut album, Kafkaesque, in November of 2012. Two years later in 2014 they released their sophomore album, Fear In Unexpected Places, and then Mass Hallucination in 2017. They were on hiatus for four years after that, dropped their last album, Hope This Helps, in 2021, and toured it briefly as an opening act for Submergence. They've been on hiatus again since then. There are a few singles that made it onto the radio but otherwise they were always a smaller band with a relatively small but dedicated following. It was in 2022, just under two years ago now, that Eddie and another producer friend of his co-founded their own music label, Bath House. Eddie's experimental project, Love Sucks Sometimes, is signed to the label, as well as a small but growing list of other alternative/experimental artists. He mainly lives in Aurora Bay, enjoying the slower pace than Los Angeles, which he isn't crazy about, and travels when he needs to.

"Yeah, I like hugs. They're nice. Favorite hug I ever got was when Matt started dating his girlfriend, she was a fan of the band at the time so she was weird around the rest of us at first. We were getting ready to leave after a show and Matt was already gone, and she came back into the green room to grab his sweatshirt or something. She gave me this really awkward, really tight hug and then sprinted away without a word, it was so goddamn funny."

"I happen to have fun with practical shit, so I guess both. You get me something that makes my life easier, believe me, I'm gonna have fun with it. Depends how you define practical, though—Elias got me a fucking sick vintage Marsona sound machine for my thirtieth and it's not something that makes my life easier necessarily but I've used it in production in ways I couldn't have replicated with anything else, so. Semantics at this point."

what is something your muse loves being praised for?

"I'm really awkward about praise usually," Eddie laughs, "but I love when people fuck with my music, that's the only thing I don't get weird about. Production-wise especially, there's no better feeling than when an artist trusts you with their own music and they genuinely like what you do with it and get excited about it."

“Aww man, I don’t know. I don’t usually remember much when I go to a concert,” he admitted. He was a big fan of festivals and the fact they were a constant party but that meant he was often on something when he was there and his memory is hazy. “Probably Kali Uchis. I’ve only seen her once at Coachella….2018? I think. But her set was great. She sounds just like she does on a recording live,” he explained. “She also brought Tyler up on stage to sing with her and that was sick,” he remembers. Her set was early enough in the day that he actually had some memory of it. “That Coachella line up was insane that year in general. I saw so many people,” he explained.

"I mean, I guess I get that for like...the Adele kind of people, where their voices are the main focus of their music, but everything else, I dunno, I've always really liked it when a band sounds raw live," he says. "I get what you mean though, her talent carries over to live performance, it fucking sucks when you see someone live the first time and the energy is just completely different. I'm not a city guy, I find it creatively stifling being in that environment for too long." He puts the cigarette in his mouth and lights it, takes a drag, then says, "I mean, I like cities, I like visiting them, I like the condensed culture, but only in short bursts. Being in this kind of place," he gestures around them, to the ocean expanding out of sight, the long, mostly-empty stretch of beach, "it kind of emulates a clear head, for me. I like that. 'Jeez, you held onto them well.' Colour Tricia impressed, nearly missing a drowning by collision. Maybe it's a personal space thing, maybe it was a being in a bar thing (bar equals no space equals lots of knocking into anything and anyone by nature of a bar), but had he not reacted, her dress would've been game over. Turns out it's weirdly harder than anticipated." Deciding suddenly he'd rather talk to her than go back and hang out with his friends he sees nearly every day, he slides one of the beers on the bartop towards her. "You like Pilsners? "Re-Animator. Matt's fucking obsessed with that movie, we've watched it every October for the last fifteen years and he used to play it constantly on the bus. It's a fucking great movie to be fair, I just can't do things on a loop like that. I think I could probably quote most of Meet the Feebles too, that movie fucks."

"Hell yeah, I love Jersey. It's got a special place in my heart for sure. Dirty as fuck," he laughs, "trash everywhere, but that's home, baby. Gotta love it."
