the online identity and gimmick-ifying of autism is so odd. I'm diagnosed with autism and yet I barely identify with any stuff I see about it anymore. It feels like autism is being rebranded as the Silly Guy Disorder that gives you smart and beautiful hyperspecific interests. it's not that I mind silly jokes or being lighthearted about being autistic- but when the entire social movement is based around marketing us this way, I just can't help but feel isolated from it. it feels like I'm not the right kind of autistic. I'm not marketable and digestible to common audiences, and therefore I am discarded by the movement in the name of progress and acceptance. it feels foul.

Today, March 1st is Disability Day of Mourning. We take this time to remember the disabled people who have been murdered by their parents or caregivers. Too often their lives are seen as the tragedy, not their deaths.

Disabled people are looked upon, not as human, but as burdens, and leeches on society. But we ARE human, and we deserve the right to live with dignity and respect as much as anyone else. Those murdered didn't deserve to die. What was their crime? Being an inconvenience?

One thing that needs to be addressed is the lack of support given to disabled people, including their caregivers. While not justified, some of these murders were committed by those who had been pushed to their breaking point, without any help of any kind. More and more, government support is being stripped away, if it was even there to begin with. We need to hold politicians accountable for how little they care about us. You may not like me bringing politics into this, but being disabled is political. How many of us are on disability? How many of us rely on government supports?

We need to fight. We need to speak up. Make our voices heard over the swaths of non-disabled voices that speak over us. But for today, let us be silent, just for a moment, to mourn those we've lost.

My mom and I have a thing I call woke college daughter where she'll say something like "men inherently require less work and drama in friendships" and I go "not to be your woke college daughter but perhaps rather than phrasing this in terms of biological essentialism we look at it from the point of view of men being socialized to avoid discussing their emotions which is not necessarily a good thing for either men or women" and by prefacing it with woke college daughter I am acknowledging that even if I'm right I know I'm being annoying about it. I haven’t been on this app in a while, but I know a Black man, Keith Porter, was murdered by ICE on New Year’s Eve (Rest in Power) in Cali. Just one of the countless Black people who’ve been murdered by ICE and other agents of the state.

I log back into this app and see the conversations around the white woman, Renee Good, who was just recently killed. And I can’t help but notice the stark difference in circulation of news and boosting of stories between both of them across this app…

Shit has BEEN happening to Black people across administrations and is currently happening to Black people under this administration, and is met by crickets. Yet when it starts touching white people, I see real anger start being felt from the gen pop followed by amplification and co-opting of Black terms and memorialization… I stg it takes everything in me to give af about yall.

I love when people get mad at explanations of why people do bad things, as if any explanation other than "they're evil and they want to" is endorsing that behavior.
