Final Paper - Physician Assisted Suicide
The topic of my final my final paper is the act of a Physician Assisted Suicide and it reflects my belief that the act should be legal. I wrote about how there must be certain regulations in place to keep a level of safety in Physician Assisted Suicides. Included in my paper are definitions of several terms that relate to the topic.
From my research I learned about the different state laws on the legality of Physician Assisted Suicides. Previous to my research I did not know about the Oregon Death with Dignity Act that made Physician Assisted Suicides a medical treatment. I learned about the Oregon Death with Dignity Act from a website called "Assisted Suicide Laws in the United States" that is put together by the Patients Rights Council. From a book called "Ideas in Conflict: Doctor Assisted Suicide and the Euthanasia Movement" I learned that in the Netherlands they provide a Physician Assisted Suicide using two injections. The initial injection puts the patient into a coma and the final injection stops the patients heart causing death.
