I'd hate to be a bad example for the younger students,
No kidding. Been bloody annoying lately, what with everyone staring at me with this disgusted look every time I try to enjoy a fag. Funnily enough, I picked up the habit from my mother, despite the many times she yelled at me not to copy her. I guess that’s where the disobedience factor comes in for me.
Maybe the next lesson we should teach the younger students is one based on 'no judgement'? It's a funny thing to want to do the exact opposite of what your parents tell you, my sister would be absolutely horrified if she found out I was smoking again.... Perfection is way too overrated always.
And this is why we don't want to misplace our wands (or leave it in the dorm accidentally) and be anywhere near the Slytherins and be a blood traitor.
I’m fine, Ed.
They didn’t get someone else, they got me, someone who is proud to fight this battle. It’s the same battle my family has been fighting for a while now.
It’s just a black eye and a few bruises on my sides, nothing major. Besides, I have no idea who did it. I’d love to say Malfoy but I’m fairly certain that it wasn’t him. Although I bet that he would be one of the people who would want to give me a black eye.
Well, as long as you say that you're fine, I believe you. But please be careful, I hate to say this but I think the situation's only going to get worse as the days carry on.
I've been wanting to get to the bottom of this for quite some time, so I might ask around to find out who did it. I promise I'll contact you if anything comes up.
Eggs, Flour, and Presents || Sedgar
“Oh, no, it looks lovely,” she said hurriedly, looking up at him. She felt a little relieved that he was smiling at her - she often forgot that Edgar liked to joke around. It wasn’t something that Sybill was used to, but she could certainly become accustomed to it. It did tend to bring out a certain level of humor in herself. “I don’t think anyone has ever baked for me before.”
When he started to berate himself, she tried to protest, but he immediately continued on. Sybill leaned back on the couch, settling back agains the cushions and watching as he started to brainstorm. She realized that there was a large smile on her face, and every now and then she giggled at the extravagant ideas he was thinking up. It was so unusual for Sybill to smile so often, and so genuinely, but she realized that it was a common occurrence around Edgar. Even on a day that hadn’t already been rather nice, he could always make her feel better.
“Oh, I don’t think any of those measures will be quite necessary,” she said, after he had finished. She had actually missed him over the past week, which had surprised her greatly. She had never really missed a person before, other than her mother, when her mind was usually so focused on her gift. “I’ve been rather caught up in my divination, since my sight has so recently returned. But I still would like to see you more,” she said, a little shyly looking up at him. “Perhaps you should come out of the library more, and I should spend a little less time under the stars.”
It was strange, being willing to make compromises. Everything was strange and new and a little scary, but in a really exciting way, when she was around Edgar. She hoped that she was fulfilling her role as girlfriend, because he certainly felt like a boyfriend to her.
“Of course I forgive you,” she said, with a laugh at his dramatic display. Trying to feel brave, she leaned forward, pressing a little kiss to his lips before pulling back and smiling at him.
As she spoke, Edgar's face broke into a wide grin, practically radiating warmth. He loved the idea of her actually missing him, it made him feel... wanted. Which was a nice feeling. He secretly wanted her to be nosy, to care about everything in his life, wanting to know everything, almost so much that it annoyed him. It was almost stupid to think that she didn't care, but Edgar sometimes had a problem with attention issues. Not that he didn't get attention from all of his peers, but he always spent his time focusing on others or doting on them that sometimes they'd forget to check to see how he was doing. He knew that his friends cared, but he liked to get some reassurance from time to time. So, to have this remarkable girl want to spend more time with him... well, it made him feel fantastic.
When her laughter filled the room, he couldn't help but to laugh too. When she finally forgave him, he was about to get up to sit next to her when she planted a soft kiss on his lips. He was surprised at first, but smiled, his nose crinkling a bit. He slid up right next to her, and grabbed the slender package, placing it right in her lap. "For you, madam." He said softly, looking hesitantly at the newspaper wrapping before meeting her eyes. Inside of the package was a very delicate gold chain with a small locket. Their was a very small rose engraved on the front, and on the inside was a small note that read in very cramped writing, "It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves."
He hoped that she wouldn't be offended by the quote, because he truly had always believe and been very interested in divination and astrology, and he felt that it shaped Sybill, but it didn't make her solely who she is. Many people made jokes about her being a "loony fortune teller"; when really she was much more than that.
I'd hate to be a bad example for the younger students,
Well, I do trust that you can make your own choices. Although I might have to ask you to brush your teeth before you try to kiss me.
Hmm... what if I went in for a smooch right now..... -leans in slowly, grinning- You'd have to suffer through the TERRIBLE SMOKER'S BREATH -laughs evilly-
Bleary Eyes and Confessions || Hestia and Edgar
As Edgar and Hestia weaved their way up the stairs to the Astronomy tower, his eyes were having a hard time adjusting to the seemingly harsh light, which was actually gently filtering through the stained glass windows. He hadn't been lying when he said that he'd cooped himself up in the dorms. His diet had consisted of Valentine chocolates that a third year had generously donated to him, and tea that he had in reserve in his trunk. He squinted his eyes and jammed his deerstalker firmly over his head, blocking out the dreaded sunlight.
"You know I actually only quit smoking for Rita when we were dating. She said it was a deal breaker." He quipped, laughing sheepishly. He never had wanted to tell anyone this because people had been so proud of him quitting "for his health", but really it was just because his girlfriend at the time wasn't going to have it. Edgar never really had minded the smell of cigarettes or smoke, it reminded him of his father; However, most of his female friends wouldn't stand for it, so he'd always have to either smoke alone or secretly with Ted.
I'd hate to be a bad example for the younger students,
Oh, Edgar, I wish that you wouldn’t. I see such horrible effects from smoking in my readings.
I guess it is a pretty rotten habit, but one little cigarette won't do much harm now will it? .... Okay I know that's a lie but they do take the edge off of things. I promise I won't smoke around you though, I apologize. -snuffs it out-
I'd hate to be a bad example for the younger students,
Of course. We can talk, alright? I’ll go grab some snacks Dedalus gave me the other day and be right back.
But will you put that out? Please?
Sounds perfectly fine by me. -sighs- Oh alright, but now you're just making me have to smoke in secrecy from now on -chuckles-
I'd hate to be a bad example for the younger students,
Considering the level of stress some of those first years put us under, we definitely deserve a smoke once in awhile. Lung cancer is a risk I’m willing to take at this point. And besides, maybe we do it because so many people tell us not to…
I'm glad someone else understands, even though they really are helpless without guidance. You may have picked up on something there miss Ravensdale, the disobedience in doing it is part of the appeal for most. I, for one though got hooked on them out of sheer habit from seeing my father do it.
I'd hate to be a bad example for the younger students,
Merlin, are you alright? You’re brilliant, Edgar, you don’t have to worry so much. You always get good marks.
No-here, come on. We’ll head up to the astronomy tower and get some air.
I- Thanks for the kind words Hestia, I have felt pretty down in the dumps lately. I really need to get out of this room before I suffocate.
I'd hate to be a bad example for the younger students,
Join the bad prefects club, mate. I’ve given up on being a good example.
Bad Prefects Club? I like the ring of that. Though I guess even we deserve a smoke now and then. Maybe lung cancer will suit us in the future!
I'd hate to be a bad example for the younger students,
You’d been doing so well! What prompted you to start up again?
Probably all this stress I've been piling on lately, it's maddening. My grades dropped last semester, so that's why I've been locked up in my dorm, I'm pretty sure I haven't left the common room in weeks, and I'm a mess. Might as well call me the Hufflepuff recluse from now on.
I'd hate to be a bad example for the younger students,
But I've really missed smoking.
And this is why we don't want to misplace our wands (or leave it in the dorm accidentally) and be anywhere near the Slytherins and be a blood traitor.
No, no no. I’m fine. I’m used to it, I swear. It’s no big deal, Ed. -shakes head-
Arthur, you shouldn't have to be "used" to these sickening things. This is definitely a big deal that should be heard by the teachers. What if they had gotten someone not as strong as you? Or a first year?
And this is why we don't want to misplace our wands (or leave it in the dorm accidentally) and be anywhere near the Slytherins and be a blood traitor.
Arthur, there's no way this can go unnoticed. You have to go to McGonnigal immediately, we can't stand for this kind of brutality... Do you know the names of who attacked you?
