Kristoph not only tried poisoning him, he tried to take a hit out on him after the first two poisonings failed, and was extremely insulted when, after listening to his proposal, Shelly de Killer just laughed and hung up on him. And then apparently told everyone, because he found it such an amusing anecdote and, hey, Kristoph wasn’t a client, so no confidentiality clause to keep de Killer from telling anyone. And then no one else would accept the contract either, on the grounds that “If freaking de Killer thinks this hit would be bad for his reputation, what makes you think I would do it.”

Because nothing ruins your reputation or makes you the laughing-stock of the assassin underworld like taking on a contract to kill an immortal.

By the time Shadi Smith shows up, yes, Phoenix is tired and stressed and really ready to be done with this... but Kristoph’s wound tight as a piano wire and actually more scared of Phoenix than he was at the beginning of all this, and all the more determined to see his life in shambles. And Kristoph can’t phone Edgeworth once a week to destress.

Well, I mean, he could, I suppose. But Edgeworth would just hang up on him, so overall it wouldn’t be very helpful.

Calisto Yew is truly the only character in the Investigations games that makes sense. All the women in this game are like “omg… Mr. Edgeworth… so refined and proper… so hot haha… I think I’m in love…” while her immediate reaction to him is “what the fuck are you wearing and why do you talk like that. what the fuck.” and that’s incredibly valid of her. Truly the only realistic and believable reaction to being exposed to Miles Edgeworth. If a man spoke to me in real life wearing a frilly cravat and tsk tsked at me and said some shit like “checkmate” I would simply shove him into a locker. Maybe also take his lunch money but apparently the butterfly effect of doing that spawns lovesick lawyers into the Ace Attorney universe. rip to Rhoda Teneiro and Lauren Paups but I’m different.
