Technology in a Bilingual Classroom
Katie Lawyer sat down with us to talk about how technology impacts the bilingual students in her classroom.
Becky O'Neil is a 3rd grade ESOL teacher at Auburn Elementary School, in the Salem-Keizer School District. After taking a video editing for iPad class that the district put on, Becky decided to have her students retell some of their favorite read aloud stories as movie trailers. Using an iPad, the students shot and edited their 1 and 2 minute films.
These trailers are very engaging for students. It is easy and accessible, even for the youngest student. Below is an example of a book trailer a kinder student made, with the support of a parent volunteer.

Matt Hurst teaches a video class at Houck Middle School. Students create a weekly video news show, where they highlight the announcements and stories for the school community. Matt shares with us about the students process for creating the videos and what it means to the school as a whole to have the announcements in this format.
