This is the heartbreaking reality for Hossam Al-Qazzaz, his wife Hanan, and their four children: Bashar, Hani, Diana, and Habiba. Last winter, their tent was bombed while they were asleep inside, and everything they owned was lost in the flames. Though they escaped with their lives, the family has spent the past year struggling to rebuild from nothing.
With help from donations, Hossam managed to construct a simple shelter atop the rubble of their destroyed home—but it offers little protection against the cold winter that will soon sweep through Gaza.
Before the war, the Al-Qazzaz family lived a peaceful, ordinary life. Hossam had steady work, the children attended school, and their home was filled with laughter and warmth. Now, they live amid the ruins, under a fragile tent that cannot keep out the winter chill. The children can no longer attend school—those still standing are few, and the fees are beyond reach. Even food and warm clothing have become unaffordable luxuries.
As another harsh winter approaches, the family faces impossible choices:
Food or warmth. Coats for the children or bread for the day. Blankets or firewood.
Hossam’s plea is simple yet heart-rending:
“Please, my friends, don’t leave us. We are in dire need of your help. Even one piece of clothing for each of my four children, or a blanket to keep them warm...anything will mean the world to us.”
