Posted this to the Reddit already but I finished the Sonic designs of Alex and Jamie!
Based on what they said they’d be in the original GEEZERS episode, Alex is an archaeopteryx and Jamie is a polar bear.
Under the cut is extra information about their designs.
I don’t know much about the Sonic universe so this might not fit into the canon but the main idea is that Alex the Archaeopteryx is from the far past while Jamie the Polar Bear is from the far future, where climate change has ushered in a new ice age.
Alex is an archaeopteryx because he said he either be a bird or a dinosaur so I chose the earliest known dino ancestor of birds, while Jamie said he’d be a polar bear so I chose that. The far future thing for Jamie was so that Alex and Jamie could have a magic vs tech, past vs future dichotomy going on.
Alex has a giant hourglass hammer filled with magical volcanic sand that can travel through time and Jamie has high-tech time travel brass knuckles. I wanted them both to have time travel powers so that they could have a way of meeting in the hypothetical game they would be in. Alex has a giant hammer because he mentioned liking giant hammers as weapons and I made the sand purple because he likes purple. I imagine that he can either smash the hammer into enemies to jump them forward/backward through time or smash it into the ground to skip himself through time. Jamie has brass knuckles because I enjoy that he would be able to literally clock someone to next Tuesday [totally not inspired by Homestuck…]. His powers would be similar to Alex’s but would be more precise as he would be able to set the time the time travel device would send things to. As well, I imagine him charging up the device by smashing the brass knuckles together, sending an arc of electricity between them, because it would look cool.
Jamie has fingerless gloves because he wore them before on the cast while Alex has normal white gloves because I didn’t want to design dino-bird hands.
Jamie’s boots are inspired by snowboard boots. I was gonna give him snowboarding goggles to match and to evoke y2k futurism vibes but I couldn’t figure out how to draw them in a way that would make sense for his eyes. Plus, I couldn’t figure out where to put them where they wouldn’t cover up other details like Jamie’s hat or his fluffy chest fur.
I made Alex mostly red and orange because of the IHE face but also because drawings of archaeopteryxes that I could find tend to draw them as yellow, red, and blue. As well, his warmer colours and Jamie’s cooler colours evoke a certain flamer/icer dichotomy. Iirc, Alex was actually icer while Jamie was flamer but eh, you take the references where you can get them.
I wasn’t sure as to whether Sonic characters’ beige snouts were meant to be their skin colour or was just beige coloured fur so I was torn as to whether make Jamie’s snout beige to match real Jamie’s skin colour or to make it black to match real polar bears, since their skin is black. I ultimately chose beige to make him look more consistent with pre-existing sonic characters and to make sure his overall design was pale enough to evoke polar bear.
I’ve just realized I’ve accidentally given him the Woody Woodpecker colour scheme. Part of me wants to change the colours but a larger [lazier] part of me thinks I should keep it bc its funny
