It really was a sick twist of irony that she was still stuck with the majority of the heart condition that had plagued her for years already even after arriving in this Linkon City.

It was an even sicker twist that she was near forced to see Zayne about it, as any other options in terms of a cardiologist were either fully booked or merely didn't wish to take her case. Too delicate or whatever.

"Kairos Phaedra, yes." She clarified, clearing her throat abruptly at the slightest hint of a tremble in her voice. "Honestly I've been fine, but being a hunter means routine check ups..." Kairos said nonchalantly. "Especially when your boss finds out about your weird and rare heart condition.." She chuckled, trying to distract herself from the trembling beginning in her hands.

Ah, she had been doing so well avoiding a moment like this but all good things must come to an end it seems. The way his voice had the hairs on the back of her neck standing on end and a chill run down her spine just went to show just how much of an effect he still had on her regardless of whatever version it may have been.

Kai was quick to swap her surprised expression to a polite, practiced smile.

"Perhaps you're confusing me for someone else?" She wondered, tilting her head as she asked. Already her brain was swiftly moving through any available options she could use to get away. Spending too much time in his presence could twist memories further, only amplifying confusion.

"I think I'd certainly remember you if we had met." Kai added with a soft laugh.

It took some time for the artist to finally approach the door, the man giving her a somewhat detached once over as he pulled the door open, only to lean against the doorway, rather than moving to allow her inside right away. Despite the way he tried to hold himself in an aloof manner, there was a slight sag of relief in his shoulders from her seemingly healthy appearance, but that only rubbed salt into his proverbial wounds.

"Oh, look at that, my bodyguard was alive and well after all." His arms moved to cross themselves over his chest, revealing not only his hurt, but the way he was trying to now draw a line between them. Even though, underneath it all he wanted nothing more than to smile, to catch up, to pull her close-

Lips pursed together and he gave a single firm shake of his head, hands curling into themselves, nails digging into his sleeves before he huffed and pushed off the frame to disappear inside. "I thought you had forgotten about me. Left all alone, no one to defend me, no one to talk to. Even the seagulls remembered to stop by more than you." He went on, rather loudly, so his voice would carry and she could still hear him as he moved further away from her.

"I'm surprised you didn't just text to check in. So, what brings Ms. Bodyguard all the way here? Couldn't be because you missed me." Was he being mean? Yes. Could he seem to help it? No. And he didn't want to. His heart had squeezed at the sound of her voice, he had felt a rush of giddiness at her finally showing up and the way she had effected him only upset him all the more and so he closed himself off more. He truly had only meant to joke a little, be a tad dramatic, but his real feelings were bleeding through and it appeared he couldn't stop quite yet.

"Come on!" Kai groaned as she shuffled in after him, following after his faintly echoing voice as her feet nearly dragging against the floor.

She knew what he was doing whether it was entirely on purpose or otherwise and she hated how it was working. Kai wouldn't say that out loud though, it'd be too much of a boost to his ego and he's had enough of those-

"It was basically a forced vacation, my phone was basically only meant for emergencies or else I would've still been too caught up in tracking work to actually get some rest." Kairos mumbled, her footsteps speeding up until she was nearly right up against his back, her head turned to the side as her cheek rested just between his shoulder blades.

She paused to take a breath and her eyes fell shut slowly, "I...did miss you though. A little. 'M sorry that the seagulls are better friends than me..." Kai admitted quietly.
