Dark forest roads

When you drive through the forest late at night; when your headlights probe the space between the trees, and the darkness envelopes you, beneath the silver gloss of moonlight. The feeling you get - the feeling that you’re alive - and somehow the fact that you’re alone doesn’t bother you, because you’re not lonely.

You keep driving. You follow the narrow road, and you break through the trees, and suddenly you’re driving through mountains, dark thunderclouds overhead. Rain splatters on your windshield, and somehow you feel safe.

You keep driving.

The rain stops after a moment, and there is a glorious sunset on the horizon. You’re still alone. You feel happy.

You keep driving, and the moon casts its shadows over you, and you aren’t lonely.
