Interesting side effect of the work we’ve been doing in therapy is that I’ve been having random memories from my childhood resurfacing out of nowhere, that I never considered to be particularly bad, but looking at now I’m realising ‘so THATS where that complex originated’

Just now remembered how I had confronted my mom about not believing me or having my back when I told her how my older sister and some of the ballet moms we carpooled with were essentially bullying me - at first I thought they were being nice, getting me, the weird kid, to talk passionately about my interests, but it eventually became clearer and clearer they were doing it to laugh at me. But yeah years later I confronted my mom about not believing me when I told her and her response was something along the lines of “oh I believed, I knew it was happening, but I thought if I told you you were overreacting then it wouldn’t bother you” and I think maybe just maybe this whole thing might still be shaping the way I interact (or rather, don’t interact) with the world

In 1914, Adine T. sent a letter to her local police to grant her a pass to dress as she pleased. She petitioned that "I be granted permission to live as a woman, to wear female clothing and to pursue female occupations, and to be considered a woman before the world in all and every respect, since my emotional feelings are totally feminine and I feel unspeakably unhappy in male clothing."

Her gender was so clear that even the conservative Swiss government had to recognize it. Obtaining permission to live as a woman "is a matter of life and death for me," Adine added.
