Details are still scarce, but a piece of chapter art was revealed showing a desert moloch, so some people are speculating that we finally get to see the Echoed World from The Vaults and Issida’s Regret!

Noted author Tefam Kita, best known for their Blackout series of novels, died in hospital yesterday afternoon at the age of 40. They are survived by their spouse Imat Tuac, sibling Achit Tseco, four children, and numerous descendants.

In accordance with Tefam’s wishes, donations in their name may be made to the Unaligned Oranges’ League.

A private memorial service will be held for close friends and family by invitation only.

huh, cool! I’m not really sure why tumblr is recommending me uh, apparently Anitami, tax policy posts, but that seems really nice! I showed it to Virtuality-housemate and they partially filled out the form just to see what it’s like, and they say it looks a lot simpler than what they currently do for their art and programming taxes, although it helps some that their main project, which is more arty and mathy, is not for sale yet

Did you know that the eleventh-longest written work is Bell Martyr’s Saga fanfiction? I’ve spent longer than a literal year reading The Juras Blades, and now that I’m finished I’m not sure what to do. Do I recommend it? I mean, I obviously like the source material more than almost anyone. This fic is almost ten times longer than the eight-book main Bell Martyr series, and spends the first 10% sucking real hard. The author dramatically improves with time, but the beginning is basically required reading, and most people can’t make it through. There’s also a real experimental section about 2/3 of the way through that’s unreadable just for being so… “experimental.” I was going to read this fic anyway, but at least 80% is worth it for a fan, always falling a little short of the canon but totally taking up the spirit of it.

In the past, I’ve been supportive of Miolee under the thinking that we should let extreme political groups experiment with their beliefs in a relatively small country made up of people who mostly believe it.

I still believe in that principle, but I was naive about its cost. Caste abolition is easy to believe in— it flatters its adherents and wins social pointa in some countercultural circles. It also leads a lot of people to take a hardline stance that not only should people be allowed to live in a “casteless” society, but that castes are inherently abusive, so no one should be allowed to live in one.

Over the past few months, caste abolitionists have been emboldened by constant publicity. How many people are desperate to move to Miolee? How many online rants about “caste flexibility” or songs about how castes are child abuse are getting attention?

The Miolee experiment proves that relatively small implementations of ideologies can lead to a surge of support that overreaches far past the result of the experiment. It shouldn’t surprise me that people get carried away by what’s politically trendy, but I’ve failed to be sufficently cynical.

I’ll try to do better next time.

I’ve been watching some old videos of @megasilverfist‘s fights. Much faster than choreographed fights-- I keep having to replay some blows a few times before I get what happened. His form is good, he just needs to name and call out his moves as he uses them.
