My last Kickstarter update still applies! I'm still studying for Step 2, the medical licensing exam, and I still plan to order the books in July and ship in July or August.

Hey everyone! I like don't really use this site. But I am doing something exciting and I want to talk about it!! I just finished a graphic novel. It's about a lesbian who tries to make sperm cells in a petri dish and it ruins her marriage. Here's some of my fav pages:
It's got catholic guilt (?). It's got animal experimentation. The ebook is only $5. You can pre-order the book it's gonna be released April 25th. Eventually I'll upload the whole thing on some webcomics aggregator site.

AAA it's finally out!! Guys I contributed to this book!! I helped out with the cover concept and graphic design of the cover, and with the research too as someone with a biology background.
I've been looking forward to getting to read this comic for years. The concept is a PhD student having to leave her PhD because the head of her lab was faking his ability to make sperm cells "from scratch" by using his own sperm. Now forced to work a normal corporate job, she becomes obsessed with the idea of perfecting this sperm-from-scratch research for real, herself, in her garage. Themes of pride, ethics, and lesbian gender fuckery.
Makkine has really created something with this story. The comic making is so well done. The art is expressive, the storytelling is concise and Makkine's writing voice is distinctive, energetic, even disorientating - in a good way. And I have to say this comic captures the feeling of working in biomedical research excellently.
It's a story that sticks in the mind long after you read it.
And it's a fully independent, small, self-published work.

My thoughts this comic cover page design!
The idea for this cover was to show off the two main characters' dynamic with a dance-like, fight-like pose. I also wanted a wrap around cover so that there could be leeway in book thickness.
I did a few sketches with the concept:
I felt the final pose I came up with had the best balance with the text and a necessary "edgier" rather than "floatier" energy. The diagonal shape the characters make has movement while also fitting in the triangular title in the top left quite nicely. I'm also a fan how I managed to put in a bit of uncomfortable bloodiness and how Kou's hand is on the book's spine.
In the background I used the clouds that make an ambiguous night and day to create negative space for the title and back blurb. The buildings are there to show off the story's attention to setting, and also to provide some high-detail elements to balance out the lower-detail empty space the text sits in.
Anyway, this book is available to order now! It's a human-eating ghoul x ghoul hunter story. It's gorey and it's gay. Chomp chomp!
