Came across the full storyboard of the famous scene™ and I absolutely ADORE the variations from the final result!

◈ The part at 18s where Norm doesn't understand where Chip's voice is coming from at all, then Chip leans onto the mirror frame and gets more and more irritated at Norm is so so funny, but I guess they had to cut it in order to shorten/respect the length limits or because it was contrasting too much with the serious tone of the scene. I wonder if the text was much different there or just acted with a more upset tone (considering also that the final punchline "if you can't see him...smile" does not show Chip smiling in the storyboard). ◈ The hammer hit shown through Norm's shadow and the falling tooth appearing on the black background look SO cool! Of course I love the final choices and the way the blackout in the final version was handled too (deliberate*? or Disney's censoring request? I wonder), but I must say, seeing how Norm is becoming literally a shadow of himself at that moment is really interesting too. *I said "deliberate" as the process of cutting right before the shocking scene, with that smile and that broken glass sound added right at the blackout was really impactful by itself. Not showing the graphic parts usually lets the mind wander into broader imaginary territories. ◈ Another difference I noticed is at the end of Chip's monologue; the storyboard scene pans to an empty sewer drain instead of Chip's smile. Both versions are interesting to me, just that the empty drain one looks obviously more mysterious. ◈◆ All in all I don't think the changes necessarily alter my perception of the characters here, they mainly impact the tone, length, and rythm of the scene. That said, final Chip looks way more relaxed than storyboard Chip, as he needs to insist more for his message to come across. Cutting into the mirror discussion and removing the annoyance factor made it look even easier for Norm's shell to crack.
