i had a dream last night that the entire world used a currency (?) called angrypennies which as the name implies are obtained by experiencing anger. the stronger and more intense your anger was, the more angrypennies you'd gain. an all-consuming rage would earn you more than a slight irritation, etc. so people were always searching for ways to fuel their anger and purposefully keeping themselves angry all the time because they wanted to earn angrypennies. unclear if angrypennies could be exchanged for goods and services, or if they were just a collectible.
anyway, as if this wasn't heavy-handed enough, at one point british comedian greg davies appeared and explained that angrypennies couldn't be worth feeling angry all the time. this was a real revelation to dream-me and i was finally able to break free of the angrypenny grind and allow myself to experience emotions other than anger.
it goes without saying that i will be using the word angrypenny as if it was part of the common vernacular instead of a term that my dreaming brain conjured up i.e. "he's all about the angrypennies" (derogatory way to refer to a guy who searches for reasons to be angry and possibly lacks introspection)
if theres one thing that really pissed me off from my 3 years of architecture i took in high school it's learning about how we used to have all these little techniques to maximize or minimize heat or warmth and now we just merrily abandoned all those to have the same copypaste style buildings everywhere that are often INCREDIBLY unoptimized to the local weather and climate so we can just throw more money at our heating and cooling bills
where i live it is hot as balls approximately 80% of the year. i do not want a massive butt-ugly grey mcmansion with a huge echoey open-concept kitchen-livingroom-foyer-diningroom-staircase that has huge windows so i can have an hvac unit the size of a barge heaving and straining to keep it at a constant 72 the grees. i want a north indian traditional style home with small windows to force the airflow to cool, decorative grates to limit the amount of sunlight, and a COURTYARD with a POND *smashes unspecified large object*
this is exactly why I love talking about historical passive heating and cooling techniques
oh wow the glass-tower office buildings we constructed when we thought air conditioning and central heating would never have downsides...have downsides?
and we're still building them?
while the Victorian house museum where I work, with thick walls and small windows and big wooden shutters stays ~10 degrees above (winter) or below (summer) the outside temperature for days on end with no help at all?
uh. okay then
(also public transit. the history of public transit in the US is infuriating, because we had it! and then we destroyed it!)
There was a study by TUM MĂŒnchen under T. Rötzer that placed the cooling performance of a single 20 m tree (deciduous trees or trees with leaves on them, european variations) at 40.000 kW/h a year.
That is an annual power consumption equivalent to 16.000 ⏠per tree if it has to replaced by AC units.
And we are still felling trees for parking lots. We are still alotting 8-10 mÂČ ground space per tree, and 12-20 mÂČ ground space per car.
We are still building housing without sufficient public transport or greenspaces.
We are still not using vertical spaces efficiently for power generation, and there still aren't enough solar power unit on city roofs, especially commercial buildings.
And overall, we are stillfelling more urban trees than trees replanted, and only every third replanted tree makes it to a height or age where it becomes relevant for the cooling effects.
Meanwhile, we are still building with glass facades, dark surfaces, no outdoor shading concept, no greenery, insufficient underground parking.
We have temperatures of 35° C in major European cities in the dead of night during heatwaves. I've been visiting churches to cool down in the last weeks. Just sat there, and noticed these thousand years old buildings kept their temperature while my 1990s-built flat slow-cooked me.
We used to build houses that were difficult and expensive to build, but easy to maintain for centuries and they still keep us sheltered. Their concepts are so simple that they work without much maintenance: sturdy materials, simple joinings, respect of gravity and a green space around it that can hold 30 full grown trees.
Now we having housing that is easy to build, but inefficient and expensive in maintenance, and it kills us.
đș - The Breathing Gardens - đș
đ đ« Stages of Infestation đ« đ
Incubare
The disease is placed in the lungs of either an alive or dead victim. The immune system responds, and symptoms of common cold sets in. The live victim might be successful in fighting off the disease.
Juvenis
A live victim might survive to this point and still recover, but never beyond the start of this stage; the disease has started to germinate and grow roots that fills the inner cavities until they extend outward. Lungs are harvested at the end of this stage
Crescendi
Upon fresh air and sunlight, floral-like tissue start emerging from the twin organs, and roots grow wild. It will thrive better if kept within the established Garden, so the trophy needs extra attention if the collection is still small.
Floriger
The disease has fully matured and displays a seemingly unique combination of flora between each victim. Some lungs carry only green leaves, other boasts a colorful variety of petals or whole flowers. Insects are not attracted to them. In this stage, the lungs softly inhales and exhales, giving the impression of a light breeze moving over the tissue. Visiting the Garden, your own lungs will want to breathe in the same soft rhythm. But if it detects hostility, it will asphyxiate you until you leave.
wanna draw mini comics with Adar x Elrond... It's unpopular ship, I know... but it's will be nice comics practice~ and create content for yourself đ€
you know whatâs wild is that all these crazy standards we hold ourselves to are things that we donât even value in another person? like iâve never been like âwow I love that this friend of mine is too proud to ask for help and never complains about their feelingsâ or âmy favorite quality about this friend is that they get straight Aâs and never get overwhelmed and has never told me about a problemâ or âi love that this friend has never been wrong about anything or slipped up and said something embarrassing once in their lifeâ and yet here we are, pushing ourselves past our limits for and beating ourselves up over slipups of things that our friends probably wouldnât even rank in the top 50 reasons they like us
Why are all these AI ads so unnecessarily gorey, violent, oversexualized and generally offputtingly dumb, and yet I still see content warnings on a classic painting of a leg bared slightly above knee height like its 1956?
@staff Tumblr I am tired of this bigotry. Restrict the slop companies from booking ad slots, please.
