Another attempt to organise my thoughts and mayhaps some accountability could lead to things actually getting finished (will try to update as motivation changes)

Arc V multidimension concept applied to DCMK (and Kaito accidentally kidnapping Conan not just over international lines but interdimensional lines as well)
Like father like son (manga!Yuya is Kaito's son and gets sent to the past after failing to find Pandora led to the world getting destroyed)
The braincell is fickle (and adulting is a pain) so no timeline on any of these but feel free to ask!
(Or drop a 🔍 in the ask box to get a ramble on a random AU not mentioned)
I'll take this empty feeling and fill it up with the
nonsensical ramblings that set us back a year oh oh
In part inspired by all the lovely Shinran art and fics going around this week and also wanting to do fit some blorbos to the lyrics of one of my all time favourite songs (Big Trapeze).
Just really love the intensity of the end of the last verse on how the line is sung initally with such a soft boppy yet slightly ominous tone but then is repeated with the with the full force of the band like they're haunting last words. Like absolutely matches the vibe of Shinichi running off with neither he nor Ran knowing that was the last time they would be seeing each other without secrets dividing them.
This was done around October last year and originally I was planning to save this for a oneshot after I finish "Just keep your eyes on me"-- but since I'm getting blue balled by my own writing, might as well post it now.
I have been rereading "Just keep your eyes on me" like, a lot, may I bother you asking for a sneak peak for ch 4 if there's the possibility?
I just absolutely love that fic, it makes me feral every, single, time
So glad that others have been enjoying that little crackship!
To be completely honest, been both having a bit of a writing block with that fic since it ended on a much more sombre note than I was expecting and if Ch 3 was any indicator on word and writing length, then it will be a fair while before I get around to finishing it. But it will be finished! 😤
But have a little tidbit for stopping by!
All of Jason's emotions bubbled up into a single word, "Bastard!"
He dove at KID but that suave shithead shot his grappling hook skyward—rocketing out of Jason's grasp before he could as so much as grab his stupid cape.
"Until our next moonlit night, my treasure!"
Oh no he fucking wouldn't.
Before Jason could face plant into the floor, he fell into a somersault—then he threw his emergency birdarang, cutting cleanly through KID's wire.
KID yelped, plummeting down into the lower levels of the Batcave. Jason immediately gave chase, leaping over the railing. KID may have the manor's floor plan memorised, but Jason had the full home field advantage in the Batcave.
The hunt was on.
That recent Nanny!Kaito au, what if shinichi wears kaito's scented shirt while holding his pup, would it work? Imagine kaito has to pull a sudden heist due to a challenge and shinichi is left to manage on his own, has to hold his pup himself since he wants to be held, and he just miss the comfort of kaito's scent... And kaito returns with apologies tumbling from his lips, only to be greeted by the sight of shinichi in his dress shirt, holding his now asleep pup... (Kaito thought the sight was both hot and endearing)
On a second thought of kaito wouldnt neglect tantei-kun, so he brings the pup, strapped and fully covered (like that one scene conan hidden by heiji) to his chest while pulling the heist successfully🤣
Oooh Shinichi in Kaito's dress shirt would be effective in lulling the pup to sleep -- though would also be accompanied with an inner monologue like "heh it truly is so that my own progeny would accept me only if I lie to him" and seeing Kaito as inevitably leaving like "this is an arrangement of temporary mutually beneficial convenience -- an alpha like him wouldn't linger any longer than that"
Pffft then Kaito coming home to that sight would have his alpha hindbrain full on "omega-sama accepts my scent!!!! Courting is working!!!"
Pffft if Shinichi is out on a case and Kaito has no one else to leave the pup with, he absolutely would bundle him up and bring him along for a surprise heist -- though hope he's ready for an epic Shinmama scolding for when he gets caught
"I couldn't just leave Tantei-kun alone!"
"That does not mean you should have a baby strapped on you during a heist!"
"As if you're much better -- who brings their newborn to a murder scene literally right after giving birth?!"
"Its not my fault someone got murdered in the maternity ward!"
So officially been a year since I stumbled into the DCMK rabbit hole and looks like this is going to be a beloved series even after the fixation fades. This snippet was the very first DCMK thing I wrote and while it was intended to be part of something longer, that brainworm has wriggled away but this is still a nice little thing to share
Kaito knew there was an interloper on his stage.
A Kaitou KID heist was as much as performance as it was a hunt for Pandora or a taunt to his father's killers. It had all the elements of a show from the props to the rehersals, from the adoring audience to the unwitting ensemble. Blurring the lines between genuine and fantastical to create something awe inspiring.
But every show needed a director - a conductor of the illusion to bring dreams into reality. Kaito on his stage was as much a director as he was the lead actor. He had knowledge of every moving piece. The awareness of anyone or anything entering his stage. The flexibility to adapt to any new unknowns and keep the show going.
For the sake of a grand performance. For the sake of no one ending up injured, dead or arrested.
So Kaito knew there was a new presence on the scene.
At this point, there was no telling who the interloper was: an enthusiastic fan, a critical detective, a deadly foe - but Kaito knew they were there.
Watching.
Waiting.
Like a shadow in the wings, a hint that someone else would be joining the stage.
The self-admittingly foolhardy showman in him buzzed with extra apprehension, anticipation, *excitement*. As Kaito tore off his disguise and danced around the last of the security measures. As he lead the cast of officers through his carefully set traps. As he burst onto the roof, knowing his favourite critic was only a couple child-sized bounds behind him.
The interloper struck when Kaito least expected yet at the perfect time to bring an new exciting twists to the show.
Just as the gem, another dud that Kaito had already forgotten the name of, would have passed from his hands to Conan's - the interloper struck. Too big to be a bullet, too blunt to be a knife but all the same, it knocked the gem out of Kaito's hand and off the rooftop.
Had the interloper managed to completely hide from Kaito...no - had the intruder *not* wanted to know they were there, his shock would have coloured over how impressed he was. The interloper *wanted* to make an impression in a way only a learned friend in the craft could.
Both thief and detective rushed to the edge to catch the interloper in the act. Kaito only saw a brief blur of black before the sparkle of the falling gem disappeared from sight before hitting the ground. No place to hook wires, no nearby buildings to make a quick escape from, no convenient ledges or foliage to hide then retreat to - Kaito knew that intimately from his own scouting of the venue. Just smooth glass and open air, as if the intruder truly came and gone like magic.
In the beat where Conan lingered by the edge, Kaito took two quick steps back to the interloper's projectile - a gauntlet thrown down, a calling card by any other name.
What was lacking spoke just as loudly as anything left behind. No gunfire. No threats. Not even a tiny nick from dislodging the gem. Just a perfectly executed theft and escape laced with just enough intrigue that the professional in him couldn't help but admire.
This was their first appearance but not the last.
"Looks like we've got a thief thieving from thieves, Tantei-kun." Kaito said, tucking the interloper's black rose in Conan's lapel.
A little clue for the little detective. Kaito knew when to pass the spotlight. The show was over but the mystery just began.
"Until another moonlit night!"
"KID-!"
Then Kaito took a deft leap backwards off the roof. He let himself fall longer than normal, cutting close to what would be considered safe, just to confirm no - there was no hidden nook or leftover equipment the interloper could have used.
With a quick mid-air spin, he pulled out his glider and flew off into the night.
Another time, Kaito would worry over the implications, weigh out the risks and incorporate new contingencies. For now, however, he relished the bubbling excitement. A new player had entered the game.
Ruminating on Kaito's No Good Bad Dinner Party (promise it'll be a funny light hearted thing) for the Nanny!Kaito AU and conflicted on the format:
1) write it out normally, or
2) have Kaito recount/vent the event to someone else (thinking either Shiho or Hakuba) -- extra benefit of establishing what Kaito's relationship is like to the third party in this AU and also further highlight his narrative bias
But with 2), besides deciding who he's venting too, there's another split on the format:
A. dialogue recount -- makes it more natural for the third party to interject but also creates more distance from the event and bias since we have to take Kaito's word for what happened (probs would be Hakuba? More banter opportunities plus a bit of verbal keep away)
B. flashback recount -- sort of have my cake and eat it for 1) and 2) but also if I want the third party to comment, added consideration of ensuring the transitions between past and present are smooth (and risk of pacing getting choppy if it ends up jumping too much) (probs would be Shiho? Listen to the rant then roast him at the end)
But then trade off with any 2) option would be a timing delay/slower pacing -- theres an inherent gap between the end of the dinner party and any progression since Kaito is stopping and recounting to someone else. Pro of Kaito coming across as more thoughtful and calculating but Con is that there cant be an immediate reaction to the dinner party aftermath because the venting recount is that reaction
Pffft probs going to sit and marinate it for a bit and see what ends up sparking joy when the muse starts haunting the braincell and stealing sleep
A continuation of the Omegaverse nanny!Kaito AU (aka the Shinmama angst or age gap Kaishin). Not something I expected to linger on the braincell but who am I to deny where it leads.
Got a couple short oneshot ideas for this AU on a whole (in chronological order): Scent (this one), Motherly Advice, Kaito's No-Good Bad Dinner Party, A Worthy Rival, Heat

"Please notice me" Kaito vs "I'm not special to him" Shinichi
Was listening to an old playlist and two songs just leapt out as the boyos mutually pining and unrequited because they're idiots with emotions (also what's written in katakana)
Kaito: sana ako na lang (I wish it were me)
Shinichi: kaibigan lang naman (I'm just a friend anyway)
Love (can't be thrown out of a window) Chapter 2 (of 3 now)
Or
"Weddings are a time for family!" by Yukiko
Truly pulling emotions out of Kaito is like pulling teeth. Mostly forced emotional vulnerability for the boyo but next chapter for sure we'll get to the action!
I'm not usually one for magic AUs and stuff but YGO got me thinking how much fun sharing a body with the person you (secretly) romantically love could be...
So now I'm thinking that one of Kid and Conan's goes sideways, maybe some kind of insanity like m23, maybe a heist Conan isn't supposed to be at and that has Snake showing up
Whatever the case, it ends badly. Conan dead in Kid's arms badly. And Kid is obviously devastated. And then Akako shows up. She knew something would happen. Kid begs her to do something, if she truly can do magic, she needs to DO something, NOW.
And so she does. And Conan's soul ends up in Kid/Kaito's body, alongside him. And they have to get used to that new arrangement.
And it's not too bad, really. Kaito looks enough like Shinichi after all that "Shinichi" can return every once in a while. But Kaito isn't the biggest fan of him taking over his body to fanboy with Hakuba about Holmes, or to solve crimes.
Hakuba knows *something* is up, of course, but when isn't there something up with Kaito? But when did he decide to become a detective as well??
Omg that maps perfectly onto this specific Yugioh Arc V scene. Quick context: yugioh typical hair aside, the three boys here (Yugo, Yuto and Yuya) have plot relevant same face syndrome and being near each other causes them to go into a rage mode that Yuto snapped out of to save Yuya
Also for more parallels, Yuya is a magician and circus themed performer with a disappeared presumed dead dad he's trying to live up to the legacy of and has his own version of a poker face (smile when you feel like crying)
While Yuto runs a phantom knights deck which maps well onto Shinichi's Sir Spade costume (also early series mystery is Yuto being mistaken for Yuya and why the boys have the same face)
Only a transition scene and an ending and then this chapter will be done! (Pffft looks like the fake wedding fic is going to have three chapters instead of just two)

Just a stray thoughts but how I feel when writing Shinichi's pov vs Kaito's pov (personal preferences and character interpretation caveat):
I see Shinichi as a very internalised character like you get so much from being in his head and having him brainworm and ruminate on a topic. Then there's also his curiosity and detective instincts which makes it so easy to drop a nugget of info in front of him and have him go full on investigation mode. Also easy to map on a flavour of emotional repression like "logically its like this so no need for me to have such illogical emotions about it." Pffft then also how he can twist his internal logic to justify doing something reckless and batshit insane is actually the most logical and efficient course of action
In contrast, Kaito is a lying liar who lies -- to others, to the audience and especially to himself. Like the poker face exists even in his internal monologues -- focusing more on maintaining whatever illusion is going on rather than dissecting and self reflecting. Like while action wise he seems the more spontaneous one, he's much more calculated and controlled when it comes to his personas. Its what makes him so fun from an outsider pov but makes you want to strangle him when you're in his head. If you want any sort of honesty from him, you need to break him in some way from an external force -- get the boyo off balance and force him to confront the things he glazes over with his poker face.
