The amount of triangles is off the charts. Although they aren't pointless!
The shape of a church is indefinitely sketched into the landscape in the latest project by architecture duo, Gijs Van Vaerenbergh. Comprised of Belgian architects Pieterjan Gijs and Arnout Van Vaerenbergh, their series of see-through churches, “Reading Between the Lines,” are not intended to be functional as shelter. They are more like sculptures that borrow design inspiration from local churches’ architecture in the area.

Artist Scott Teplin enjoys the minutiae, which is a good thing considering his intensely-detailed stacked room drawings require a dedicated curiosity to create, as well as to enjoy. Teplin describes his ink and watercolor works on paper as a way to categorize his curiosity about the unseen areas of life. We can trace Teplin’s creative path from the times he was sequestered in his room as a childhood punishment to his early days in New York, when he would try to draw his neighbors’ apartments from memory. From these moments, his highly entertaining and elaborate “Rooms” series was born.

Maximo Reira has a background in painting, photography, and sculpture, the latter of which he applies to his innovative, functional furniture designs. For his new “Animal Chairs” series, he sculpted large, realistic animals such as octopi, rhinos, and whales, using part of their bodies to create a throne-like seat. Mostly monochromatic with a natural color palette, the chairs have an elegant and otherworldly quality to them.
