Papa Archeron's Bargain: E/ucien bond

I believe Koschei forged Elain and Lucien's mating bond. The bond is real, but it was not formed correctly.

I was thinking about this: Koschei trapped Vassa because he knew they would need her in the war. He used her as a bargaining chip with Father, already knowing he would come to rescue her. In exchange for allowing Vassa to help in the war, the deal was being able to choose Lucien for Elain.

Koschei might have taken advantage of his foresight to show that Lucien was a good man, an heir, and everything Elain "needed." This does not erase the fact that the Cauldron makes mistakes; it makes mistakes with other pairings, but that is not the point. The bond does not need to be "wrong." The person is the one who decides whether they want it or not. That is the main issue: when someone simply does not want it, even if on paper it seems like the right choice.

In short: giving Elain to Lucien is a strategy. Light blinds the oracle, so Lucien blinds Elain's powers. That way, Koschei, who is some kind of seer, gains an advantage over her. In the end, they will have to engage in a duel of minds, which fits Elain very well.

Koschei wanted to keep Azriel away from Elain because Azriel helps her understand her powers, while Lucien does not. Lucien actually hinders her development because he does not understand them either. Since the plan with Lucien did not work out, Koschei resorted to using Gwyn, manipulating her without her knowledge. I do not think Gwyn is a villain, because as a reader, I know she will have some role. It might not be the main role or the main focus, but she will have one. After all, in ACOSF, it is mentioned that Gwyn had a secret behind her beautiful face.

I believe that somehow Merrill is the one working with Koschei. In legends, Koschei collected brides and those women were beautiful; Merrill's unreal beauty could be proof of this. Additionally, Merrill says she is related to the Lord of the West Wind, and it is worth remembering that Koschei himself claims he whispers through the winds. It is also suggested in ACOWAR, when the twins invade the library, that there is a spy and that someone let them in. Could it be Merrill? Sarah gives so many descriptions of Merrill precisely because she does not want us to lose sight of her.

In Throne of Glass, Aelin uses the water powers she inherited from her mother and describes them as a silent music that calmed her. And what happens in the bonus chapter? Azriel hears a silent music and, even more than that, he and his shadows calm down. That is also why Azriel does not know why he arrived at the library at 7 PM: that is the exact time the priestesses sing. Elain gave him the earplugs because she foresaw that Azriel would be drawn in by that song.

That is why, at the end of ACOSF (A Court of Silver Flames), Koschei says he prepared for Azriel. Elriel true mates.

I really hope sjm will not have elain "explore the bond" by getting together with Lucien in any capacity. I would honestly feel sick and throw up, since we know she doesn't actually want him. It would feel violating because of their bond and how traumatizing and corrupt it is compared to the true bonds.

Honestly, I think she might show some elucien moments just to further prove how incompatible they are.

But I don't think she'll have elain suddenly want to try it out with Lucien. That just sends the wrong message to her readers, but if elriel are true mates, I hope we learn how a corruptes bond feels vs a genuine one.

So soon, the most stupid and pointless shipwars that all started because people could not accept that a strong warrior like Azriel could want someone "weak" like Elain and how Elain couldn't possibly not want the handsome rakw that is Lucien, will finally end with elriel and elain rejecting lucien and the bond she never wanted

There are three sisters that are made fae. Two of them had their story told. The third was traumatically forced together with a guy she doesn't want. Her heart wants someone else, who wants her back. She's a fucking seer and tied to all the main plots. Yet in a series about female empowerment, this idiotic fandom not only thinks she's irrelevant, but that she'll lose her autonomy completely to fate and end up with the guy that traumatised her, in the background of someone else's book. And they call that romance. Save me from this absolute stupidity. Not a single living organism on this earth should be surprised when it is inevitably confirmed the next story is Elain's and Azriel is her endgame.

I can't fucking deal with this fandom being run by total morons. How do they manage to wipe their asses or to breathe and walk at the same time if they're this damn dumb? Good god, this is so exhausting.

It really is exhausting. I wonder if after acotar 6, will the stupidity increase or decrease...

Don't forget them attempting to make Gwyn more important and relevant then Elain.

Its like antis are allergic to acknowledging this theme of 3. I said this before, but Elain is not treated as an Archeron Sister. She's treated as some side character whose only purpose is to realise how badly she has treated her mate, beg for his forgiveness and accept the bond whilst following Lucien around in his grand story.

spare me for this forced marriage type of romance. Its not romantic for elain to end up with the man who shoved her into the cauldron, cant stand nesta, stood by whilst Feyre was emotionally abused and who she loses her boldness around. The same man who can't stand being in the same room as her.

but the fact people will genuinely be so flabbergasted when elriel and elain are happening. They'll be completely shocked, they didnt see it coming at all despite it being SO obvious since acowar.

They really looked over what has been obvious all along.

hey so im the anon who was reading acomaf and is in the midst of reading acowar and i just noticed and found it really funny how in acowar feyre has put so much on choice and she has mentioned it several times over while she was in spring court, even after she returns in velaris.

this is what i think some online readers nowadays seemed to ignore and i hate it because there is a huge importance on establishing a woman’s agency with her life in the stories being told.

ex.

how rhys lets her decide/have agency of her own — “But he would, I realized. He’d shove down his need for me and take me to them, if that was what I wanted. My choice. It had always been my choice with him.”

and with her sisters — “But I won’t force them to help, if they do not wish to participate. The choice will be theirs”

- she asks nesta to join them, and feyre still respected her choice when nesta said no about sharing her experience with the cauldron. aside from asking how elain is, feyre left elain alone out of respect

clearly choice is an important theme in the series (since book one) but SJM is making an emphasis on it again. i wonder why?

then in chapter 24, the iconic “why not make them mates?”, and feyre bringing up “free will”; “Is there no free will? What if Lucien wishes the union but she doesn’t?” with rhys.

to which he replied, “There is choice. And sometimes, yes—the bond picks poorly.” — it is literally written there in the books, that despite it all, women will have a choice about their journey.

kind of crazy how SJM has shared time and time again how she wanted to explore the concept of free will to which even feyre (aka SJM) has mentioned in ACOWAR, and repeatedly, by SJM.

but sure, rejecting the mating bond and exploring female agency will go to some background characters OR how elain will be an irrelevant character who won’t be a part of the next books, sure.

SJM isn’t obligated to spell out the obvious because it is in the books, not her fault some want to interpret it differently

Even in acosf, when Nesta forbids Elain from scrying, Feyre tells her it is Elains choice.

Choice has always been an essential theme in the Maasverse.

Each couple chose each other. For feyre and nesta - they both had that moment where they chose to accept their bonds AFTER falling in love with their mates and knowing they would choose them regardless of a bond.

Thats the thing antis don't understand or want to understand. Elains choice of love was ripped away because of a bond that was forced on. She didnt ask for a mate. She lost Grayson to this bond. Azriel has been forbidden from her due to this bond. Its a pressure on her, that she should give him a chance - clearly elain felt that pressure when in acofas she snapped back saying Lucien wasn't entitled to her. And even now, yes she has the "choice" to accept or reject the bond but is it really a free choice when she knows rejecting the bond carries a lot of consequences? it isnt.

Maas wants to explore free will and it is a very interesting concept. You have mating bond...but like...you dont want it. So what happens then? You feel the bond for the rest of your life? That's not fair. You run the risk of having your lover killed in a blood duel? Thats not fair. You mate might go ballistic because of you? Again, rejecting a bond is not an actual available choice. Challenging that idea and exploring what it could mean is a refeshing take on the "fated mates" trope because sometimes, nature does get it wrong. So what happens then?

The fact eluciens deny this element of choice as anything meaningful for elain is honestly weird. Instead, they double down on how important and sacred the bond is - a belief Sjm wants to challenge.

That breakthrough story isn't going to a couple where we dont even know if they have a bond or not, it's going to the mated pair whose bond was questioned by two important characters. The bond where the author literally went, "why him?" and "what if the cauldron was wrong".

I was thinking they could use the Autumn Equinox to do some actually good marketing. Since they already included those questions — the title, POVs, central romances, Bryce, etc. — imagine if they made a video with Sarah answering some of them, especially revealing the title and POVs. It would be perfect because the release would be so close and the whole fandom would be watching. They wouldn’t even have to give us spoilers, just a few things we’ve been waiting for forever. It would be such a good marketing opportunity, but honestly, I don’t expect anything from them.

I genuinely believe BB especially the marketing aspect, do not know anything. Time is coming close though...September might be the month we get something but im not holding my breath for it, BB have let us down so mant times 😭

I was noticing something about Gwynriel this week. People really embrace fanon Gwyn more than canon. Fanart shows Gwyn with all different hair shades. From bright orange to deep wine red. To the point I think I'm looking at Bryceriel art. Usually it's wavy or curly when canonically its pin straight and copper brown. She is tall, slender, and coltish and has freckles across her nose and cheeks but she is rarely drawn like that. Same with personality. Nesta descibes her as young when she first meets her and Cassian calls her young or a girl on at least 3 occasions. Nesta even agrees on why he thinks of her as a girl. That's not to say she isn't brave, clever and capable in certain situations but its canon she appears and acts young.

But even the fanon version of her is not original and taken from other characters. Curly hair like Elain, wine red like Bryce. She's not made nor starborn but people cram her into storylines with made weapons. She has nothing to do with the Dusk court but she will be a ruler there for some reason. Somehow she's a languages expert although Amren actually knows ancient languages and would be consulted first. She's loud with high pitched squeals and doesn’t understand how to keep secrets but she'll be a spy with azriel. Her lineage is a big plot for Gwynriels, like it is for Lucien, but the only reason it's brought up is to show she has mysterious lightsinger lineage. I get people are only making theories and it's easy to embellish so she'll be a bigger part of the story. Truth is, we have most of her story as of ACOSF. Anything else will be probably be background or as member of the Valkyries. I'm willing to bet she won't even have a romantic plot in the future books. Not all of SJM's characters have a LI and an endgame is not required for a secondary character to have a HEA. All this to say the Gwynriel phenomenon is so weird to me.

When you look at GA fanart, its so obvious they take inspiration from canon elriel scenes + Brycerials aesthetic.

Fanon Gwyn is so distorted from canon Gwyn, they may as well be two different characters. Fanon Gwyn is literally y/b atp for the all gwynriel stans to self insert with.

Its all an attempt to make Gwyn more relevant then she actually is because acosf fails to do that. They need Gwyn to not be "just any side character". They need her to be THE side character, so she's in the same leagues as the Archeron Sisters, which will never happen lmfao. Gwyn isn't having anything to do with the third sister peak aka prison. She isn't connected to TT or Gwydion. She isn't connected to the trove items. Her lineage is heresay and its funny how Gwynriels go back and forth on whether she's even a LS or not. Thing is, deep down GAs know how irrelevant Gwyn is overall hence why they *need* Nesta to carry a Gwynriel book and why Gwyn was reduced to "just a Li" last year, they know she will never be as important as the IC/Archerons.

The fact her own sexuality wasn't made obvious, shows she is not being set up for a romantic arc. If we look at it through centering Feyre, Gwyn is a tertiary character. She doesn't need a love story.

Gwynriel is literally a result of two things:

Eluciens finally having a ship to throw Az into so he's no longer a threat to elain and lucien

hardcore Azriel stans who couldn't stand the fact he liked elain because they can't relate to her hence why they've latched onto perfect Gwyn.

Y'know I do think its likely especially if Maas wants to do another tog book after acotar. Elain does seem more heavily associated with TOG, her story can tie in their especially as Rowaelin parallel elriel/elucien to an extent with the whole "thinking someone else is your mate/fake bond only to realize your true mate is the one you're falling in love with" aspect.

I think they’re not saying that the story will be about Elain and Azriel because otherwise it would already be obvious that Elain is going to reject the bond. That would make the plot way too predictable, so I think they’re keeping it vague to build suspense.And I really don’t think we’re going to get a Lucien POV because:

1. No one really cares about it.

2. Whatever concerns Lucien, we’ll learn through Elain’s perspective anyway.

3. If he were truly as important as people claim, he would have already had at least one POV in the previous books, or maybe even a bonus chapter like Azriel did.

I agree. I think Maas wants to frame this as fate vs true love and ofc, true love always wins. We all know Lucien is fate and Azriel is true love - so elains endgame is quite clear.

Lucien is importand as a plot device for elains story and is importand for the plot progression of Vassa's story. I doubt we will get his pov in acotar 6, but since acotar 7 is a very heavy and long book - we might get his pov sprinkled in. I think its also important to see from his own pov, his feelings on the bond as well to further make it clear that him and elain were incompatible from the start, neither want the bond. Going by Koshei's mythology: An elriel and Vassien story intertwines heavily, so it rlly does depend on how the plot unfolds.

I wouldn't be suprised if we got luciens pov but I also wouldnbe surpised if we didnt. It really depends on how Maas wants to go about the story, we might not get his pov but later get a lucien novella that takes place simultaneously as acotar 6, 7 and 8.

I am also a little sad about the lack of Elain focus in the promos and marketing. Elain is included but she's included like one of the IC. She's the next fmc so I wish there would be focus on her alone too. But I think that will start after acotar 6, because then it's all out in the open. Elain has always been the most mysterious. I think they're keeping it that way until after acotar 6. As for sjm, I kind of think she wants Elain to remain mysterious and then come out and prove all the misogynistic haters wrong. I honestly think sjm likes that kind of thing. I don't personally though. I think it does Elain's actual fans a disservice. But sjm seems to kind of like addressing antis more than her fans sometimes. Especially misogynistic ones.

I know as elain stan it sucks that elain isn't the main focus but after CHD, its so clear elains book is next and hopefully for acotar 7 we get actual elain marketing.

idk anon. With a HP book release they managed to keep everything a secret until very close to the release date so it is possible that they will manage to do the same for acotar 6,

however, the longer the wait, it increases the likelihood of a leak which derails the whole "secrecy" aspcect of this book so likely the title and cover will be announced before Oct 27th. When? Its anyones guess. I'd say September, because the books should be hitting the printers soon before being sent of to the bookstores. BB would want to announce the titles before then.

Literally no publisher or bookstore knows ANYTHING. Indigo knows NOTHING. They are not going to risk a lawsuit just so they can reveal information (they dont even have) to some random account claiming Gwynriel is endgame. Nobody is that stupid except from the people believing this.

Indigo likely wouldn't even have acotar 6 in their hands, I dont think the book has gone to the printers yet.

Obviously this is all fake, gwynriels are known for spreading fake information. Its a sad attempt at dealing with the fact their ship is sinking.
