Looking at Prospero's Spectre (+Other things)
So I've been looking back a bit in preparation for the eventual season two. I noticed some things about Prospero's spectre design that have me (over) thinking a little.
The hourglass: I read "The Masque of the Red Death". The fictional disease in the story has people succumbing in just a half hour. Is whatever he was trying to cure in life also a fast acting disease? (Yes, I am under the assumption he was trying to cure something.) Or maybe it is just supposed to represent the time someone has as they slowly deteriorate? I read that plague doctors had to quarantine themselves after treating a patient. A long one. Perhaps the hourglass represents that time; the agonizing wait before he can continue his duties, or to see anyone at all. He may enjoy solitude, but too much of it can have a horrible affect on you. And the wings. They seem a bit...skeletal. My first thought was featherless wings or like fallen aasimar sort of wings. As if an angel fell. Perhaps he was considered an angel; a miracle. He worked so hard and helped so many people. Losing a doctor during this time probably felt like losing so much hope. I don't wanna point out anything specific buuuut... *coughs*
Not the same wings, obviously...but I still thought of them. Speaking of the logo...hear me out. The heart represents Annabel. It looks eerily similar to her spectre's chest crystal. The wings could represent the Raven, but I think it represents Lenore/her eventual spectre. Speaking of that; I have a couple of thoughts. - Lady in Red would be interesting to contrast with Annabel, but I do have a feeling her spectre will be raven related. - Maybe Valravn inspired? Or a phoenix. Bc bird + fire. I need to think on it more.
in fact, a wooden cane with an hourglass and wings seemed to be a frequent element of the plague doctors' costume, although I did not find information on what exactly caused this design
