         hearing her agree made lucien smirk a bit, he might have been surprised, but he didn’t show it. when she reached out and grabbed his hand, he almost pulled away. he had allowed himself to show a weakness without even meaning to. where the hell did that come from? he questioned himself. however, hearing her words made him hesitate. usually he’d just brush someone off, make it seem like it was no big deal. or just have some ridiculous self praising comment to say, but this was elara. and he didn’t ever feel the need to try to hide that part of him. but he still didn’t want to talk about it. not now anyways.  “ for a staff sergeant, yeah, he can be. ” he replied, with a slight laugh, not wanting the conversation to be as serious as it sounded. “ but thanks, el. you’re one of the most amazing people i know too– ” he replied a bit awkwardly. he was never good with real feelings and compliments, but he did mean it with elara and he was definitely trying more with her than he would with anyone else… he just hoped she knew that.

“That would be a reason but not an excuse,” Elara answered simply sensing that the topic was about to be dropped and letting it do so with one last added fact. With most people she wouldn’t get those little social hints but Elara was always more aware of Lucien’s cues and boundaries. His compliment made her stomach flutter a bit but she didn’t really focus on that and instead just smiled at him in an almost smug manner. “Of course I am. I’m smarter than all the people you know put together so I totally don’t have any competition on that front,” she answered trying to joke back since things suddenly felt a little bit off? “Still glad to hear it though. Seriously. You’re probably the only person who thinks so. Most people would go with the weirdest.”

💁 if someone was rude to you, would you be rude back? 

“It depends entirely on the situation. I don’t see the need to be rude just because someone is doing so. Not unless they are putting me down specifically. I won’t let people step all over me to make themselves feel better. And on the other hand I certainly wouldn’t be rude to someone who knocked into me and didn’t apologize or something like that. It’s just a waste of my time to engage in that case.”

💧 when was the last time you cried?

“I suppose it was when I found out the science of the asteroid was correct. Not because the one thing in the world that I love is hurling towards us to kill us but because this may be it. I may not get more time. Time to discover things and learn all that I’d like. Time to do all the silly little things like go on a date or travel to places I like. Just things I haven’t done yet because I’m so young.”

     lucien raised a brow “ that’s cute el–- you think you could replace me? ” he tried to stop the smirk that appeared. tried. “ you might be right, we do seem to have a never ending supply of troublemakers, but none as amazing as me. ” he added on. “ i didn’t say i deserve to die a fiery death–- well i might, maybe according to my father. ” he shrugged.

“That’s a fair point,” Elara answered with a smile as he bragged about how amazing he was compared to others. Then just as quickly he seemed to think the complete opposite when he spoke again. Instinctively she reached out towards him her hand settling on his as she leaned in. “Your father is an idiot then. You’ve got too much to live for still. You’re the most amazing person I know,” she assured him her voice much softer and far more serious.

      “ you knew what you were getting yourself into with me. ” he winked. “ plus, you’d miss me too much. ” he added as he smirked at her. “ Maybe we deserve it. ” he shrugged. it was a bit ironic, he loved hearing her talk about space–- her knew how much she loved all things space related, yet it was that very thing that might be there end.

“Maybe I would,” Elara mused. “Or maybe I could just find another troublemaker in town since we seem to have no shortage of those,” she tacked on in answer. “We deserve a lot more than an asteroid to the face. In fact I was thinking we could move to Kepler-22b. It’s always been considered most like earth as far as planets go and it’s worth the risk now to find out. But I mean if you really think you deserve to die a fiery death I guess I’ll just have to learn to live by myself.”

“Are you sure you want to remind me of that? I mean this might be the day where I finally realize wow this guy is so not the kind of person I want in my life. Then your only friend will be a cat. A cute cat but still just a cat,” Elara retorted, surprised she even managed to come up with something kinda clever to say. “It’s called realism by the way. The facts are the facts sadly. My favorite thing is out to get us all.”
