          ‘ yeah ? that’s a first. every werewolf i’ve met before -- not that i met too many, but, still -- was quite proud of being one. ’      she said, watching him curiously. he sure was a different one, she could tell.     ‘ honestly, i’m more worried about my fighting skills than cardio. you can’t outrun the supernatural forever. ’

“it’s… it’s difficult. i was forced to be in a brothel ran by vampires since the war started. so this feels strange right now.”

          ‘ oh god ... ’      nora mumbled, shaking her head.      ‘ i’m sorry ... i’ve heard of the brothels during my run. ’     she gave a knowing nod.     ‘ but it’s over now. you’re safe here, alright. ’

“More like beauty–” One hand lifted gesturing to himself. “–and the beast.” His head tilted while he pointed towards her direction, crooked smirk only widening. The idea of living with a stranger was one he had found to be ludicrous, still did. Yet he was thankful it was with someone he genuinely got along with and could have a nice little back and forth. Made his time at home that much more interesting. With arms crossed against his chest, he had looked away once again giving a minute of silence before deciding to give her an answer.  “Don’t you know curiosity killed the cat?” A rubbish answer, to a simple question. The hybrid wasn’t always one to share things right away.  

          as much as nora wanted to keep her expression straight, it was almost impossible when he was near. it was as if his cocky grin was infectious.      ‘ let’s hope it doesn’t take you too long to find the way to make me not-so-beasty, princess. ’     her grin growing more playful, she snatched the bottle out of her small backpack to finally have some water after cooling down, not expecting him to give her an answer at this point so when he did speak, she wasn’t surprised to get such reply.     ‘ mh-mm. i do. ’     she hummed, raising a brow at him.     ‘ but i thought we had settled on the beast for me ? ’

“i’m not sure what it is around here, but i’m always exhausted.” she said, quiet; she always had snacks on her, and this time she tugged a baggie of dried banana chips out of her purse and opens the ziplock, shaking her head.  “i’ve never slept so poorly. just me?”

           ‘ i never really paid attention, honestly. ’      she said, offering an apologetic smile to the other person.      ‘ i mean -- i do feel tired most of the time but i run every morning so i just chalked it up to that. ’

He was amused, it was clear in his features. Orbs turning towards the lively view before them a soft, thoughtful sound leaving his parted lips. The comeback should have been expected, he wasn’t bothered. Mikael was a vain one any joke or insult never made his ego falter.  “Love you can’t practice something that comes naturally to you. I have to hold back on the charm, the last thing I need is you falling for me. Living with a handsome face must be bad enough.” The teasing continued which was evident. “Well while you’ve been out for a run I was working.” If one can call gambling working. 

          ‘ oh -- here goes my hopes for having a twisted off-brand little red riding hood and big bad wolf love story. boo you. ’      nora said with a roll of her eyes, the grin remaining on her face as she shook her head. in all honesty, she did enjoy this back and forth, rather playful banter ---- she didn’t know how could she do with someone who didn’t share the same type of humor and sarcasm as she did.      ‘ working huh ? ’      she questioned, face showing more curiousity now as she repositioned herself on the bench, now facing him.      ‘ what would that be for you now ? ’

“it’s been a long three years.” she added and smiled small. “ – i’m evangeline. it’s nice to meet you.” she said quietly. 

          ‘ well, ’     she sighed.     ‘ you aren’t wrong ... ’ giving her a sympathetic smile, nora extended a hand.     ‘ lovely meeting you, evangeline. how are you adjusting ? ’

That scent, the one he had now grown accustomed to had hit him before she even uttered a word. The human who currently shared his very mark sat beside him on the bench he was currently occupying, dark hues turning all attention on her now. “By that atrocious smell, I can assume you’ve been out running all morning hm?” There was a hint of teasing in his tone his head tilting to her direction with a playful smirk curving at his features. 

          looking at him, a grin appeared on her face with ease and nora shook her head, eyebrows furrowed in fake anger.     ‘ hey -- i do not ... ’     she trailed off, huffing out as her grin grew wider.     ‘ rude. ’     letting herself cool down from the run, the girl stretched her back, leaning against the bench.     ‘ but i can only assume you, on the other hand, haven’t been practicing your charm. ’     mirroring his playful smirk, she raised a brow, head tilted to the side in curiousity.     ‘ what have you been up to, though ? ’

elizabeth let out a shaky breath. “s-sorry i was released from the medical building today.” she said quietly. “so i’m still getting used to all of this.”

           ‘ shush, it’s fine really. ’     she waved it off dismissively, a friendly smile on her face once the girl spoke.     ‘ you were there ? hope you are better now. also ... do you know if they need any help out there ? ’

landon looked at the girl that plopped down next to him and raised an eyebrow as she spoke, “you know, i used to be able to relate but since i’ve been turned into a werewolf, i can’t. you’ll eventually get used to it, i’m sure. everyone does.”

          ‘ or ---- maybe i should just go get myself bitten. being a wolf sounds a lot more of an advantage right now. ’     she said playfully, letting out a soft snicker.     ‘ jokes aside, you’re right. i should be in shape for long runs soon now that i am settled here. ’

evangeline looked up and smiled small. “sure i don’t mind.” she said quietly as she took a sip of her soda. “take a seat.”

          nora smiled as she took a seat across the woman, letting out a soft sigh.      ‘ man it was a long day. ’     she mumbled, tilting her head to the side as she looked at the other brunette.     ‘ i’m nora, by the way. ’

“i mean, i just spend a lot of my time thinking about everything. the war, the situation we’re all in, and the humans.” benny lifted his shoulders up in a shrug. he thought that he’d asked a valid question. maybe it wasn’t as valid as he though it was. “yeah, well i just think that going against humans is stupid. they’re weaker and it’s not at all a fair fight.”

          ‘ funny. i didn’t even have the time to process all this. ’     it didn’t come out in an attacking way -- no, it was just nora being surprised that some people, unlike her, were actually without too much problem for the past 3 years to have time to think.     ‘ i’m sure their motto is ‘big fish eats the little fish’ or something along those lines. if they thought a bit more like you, we wouldn’t even have to fight. ’

You can run all you want, but exhaustion and everything will set in after a while.” The brunette offered up a slight smile, before he was holding out one of his unopened waters. “Would you like some water? I assure you I didn’t mess with it, I just tend to carry around extra water whenever I’m on my own runs.” Dimitri explained, as he patted the backpack next to him.

          ‘ i can feel that in my bones ... or more like, muscles. ’     she grinned before breathing heavily, still worn out from the jog. listening to his explanation then, she accepted the offered bottle, shaky hands working on the lid.     ‘ you are my savior now. my dumbass forgot to get one before i left in the morning. ’     shaking her head at herself, she took a few sips of the water, trying not to overdo it.     ‘ so you run too ? ’

           ‘ oh boy -- ’      nora panted out, leaning against the bench she had just sat down next to someone, exhausted from jogging for two hours. she then wiped at her forehead with the back of her sleeve, feeling her muscles burn as well as her lungs.     ‘ you would have thought i’d be in shape after all that time spent running but -- nah, i still suck at this. ’

“you know, i’m curious…” benny trailed off as he looked at the person who was seated next to him. “are all of the humans thankful for the supernatural that protect them or do they just act thankful so that nothing bad happens to them? i think about that a lot, maybe more than i should but in times like these, i think it’s best to be honest anyways.” he rambled slightly and leaned his cheek against the palm of his hand. “what do you think?”

          ‘ you think about that a lot ? we gotta find you a hobby. ’     she said teasingly, barely keeping a snort back from falling out. but she also did, in fact, think about it once he had proposed the question, which made her purse her lips in thought.     ‘ but well, i mean it’s such a specific question. i’d say it depends on the individual. ’     she decided before lifting her shoulders.     ‘ i for one, am truly thankful. if it wasn’t one of you i’d have been dead already. going against your own kind is ... brave. ’

evangeline had been hiding in the cabin and recovering for the last three days, since benny had brought her to the sanctuary. but today she felt strong enough to go out an explore. it felt strange to have a good set of clothes after so many years of being told to wear such provocative things. she bundled up and walked to the diner near by, she was starving and ready to eat some good food for the first time in years. she walked into the diner and looked around shyly before taking a seat at the empty table in the back corner.

           the fact that she knew almost no one around was already bugging her -- eleanora had always been used to crowds, doing things alone wasn’t her thing. so when she walked into the diner she immediately started to search for someone who could be of good company and her gaze fell on the other brunette. with a friendly smile she walked over, pointing at the spot before her.     ‘ hey there -- would you mind if i sat here ? ’

bethany was officially cleared from the medical building and she was so eager to get out and explore the sanctuary and see what her new home was like. she wished it wasn’t winter and that it wasn’t so cold. but at least it hadn’t snowed yet. she walked around town and looked around. she was happy to see there was still part of the world that wasn’t demolished by the enemy. she let out a soft gasped as she felt herself bump into someone lightly. “oh i’m sorry!” she breathed out.

          ‘ -- shit ! ’     exclaimed nora, bouncing back a bit as a reflex when she bumped into someone else. with so much to explore around the town, her eyes weren’t exactly on the sidewalk but instead around the buildings, so the small accident didn’t surprise the girl in actuality.     ‘ sorry - i wasn’t watching either. ’     she said, an apologetic smile on her face before she tilted her head to the side.     ‘ distracted much ? ’

everyone has their own insecurities, and that’s just how it is in life. but then you reach a certain point and you realize every person is completely different, so there’s no point in comparing yourself to other people. something that you see someone else wearing is not going to look the same on you. it’s just not going to be that way.
