Saw a reel about Jax in my insta and it pisses me off.
It talks about how Jax is a character with a declining mental health and he's an example of how people say they care about mental health but not when someone is actually going through it. How Jax's mental health is so bad it leads him to hurt other people.
Look, I don't like invalidating one's emotions and trauma. I've discussed before that I understand him, and what he's been through is something I myself can't imagine going through. It's difficult, and I can see how he ended up that way, the need to be mean for people to stay away.
But that's just what makes you understandable. It doesn't excuse your actions. People were actively trying to help him. He had someone who had and has been trying but he refuses help. He isn't a person to be saved or can be.
I hate Jax because he hurts other people. Being traumatized doesn't excuse you for this. And he isn't just hurting people, he's actually misogynistic for solely targeting anyone that isn't a man. He's always attacked Gangle, Ragatha, Ribbit, Zooble, and Pomni. Those that aren't a man.
I cannot find myself empathizing with a character that harms people. To excuse that they aren't people is completely stupid. They are brain scans and are still considered humans but are just avatars. The show does coddle him.
His death makes it worse because he got away with it. It's not his punishment. To also say that he already died with his complex emotions is not much of an argument. So? People are actively trying to help and understand him and he wouldn't do anything. He doesn't want or need help.
To feel bad solely for Jax is insane. Gangle, Ragatha, and Ribbit were his freaking victims?? They've also been through a lot in their past and they never let it get to them. They're also going through something, why not empathize with them too? It's insane.
Also, calling an apology cliche is just so fucking weird. Why and how the fuck is an apology cliche?? It's what shows he's still human underneath and he at least knew the weight of his actions but no. He didn't apologize so I won't forgive or like him. It's basic human decency, even a fucking ai and npc made by Caine has more fucking humanity than that rabbit??
You can understand a character and still hate them because of their present actions. It's still bad. It was his decision to inflict harm and trauma on other people despite knowing what it feels like in that position.
I'm not telling people with bad mental head spaces to think about others first. I'm just saying that you are still responsible for your actions. You can yell, antagonize, say hateful things, physically hurt people, be angry, and all of the other responses for being at your lowest and still be responsible for your actions. You'll still have to apologize after. Feel what you need to feel but your trauma doesn't excuse you from apologizing.
