Sola looked at her niece, tears streaming down her face. Leia truly was the spitting image of her mother, while her brother took after their father it seemed. Sola didn’t have to guess who that had been, she had seen how Anakin Skywalker looked at her little sister.

“We never dreamed… we thought we lost you with Padmé, and we never suspected twins!”

Putting   away   the   holoprojector,   it   was   an   image   of   her   twin,   the   other   half   to   her   soul   and   life,   some   of   the   only   family   she   really   had   left. ❝   That   was   Luke,   my   brother.   He’d   have   come   if   he   weren’t   by   the   outer-rim,   but   the   news   came   so   quickly.   ❞   She   admits.   Leia   was   here   on   business,   hoping   to   obtain   a   secret   holofile   Padmé   may   have   had   stored   here   long   ago.   but   that   didn’t   mean   she   couldn’t   bond,   and   have   a   few   moments   with   her   aunt..   She   couldn’t   stop   herself   even   if   she   wanted.

“He’ll have to come visit next time.” Sola smiled, drying her eyes, now was not a time for tears. Now was a time to rejoice, her niece was here, and Sola could show her where she came from.

“I know you do, but it couldn’t be helped, let us focus on the present and enjoy what time we have together, I’m afraid your cousins aren’t on planet right now, but I would love to show you Theed, there’s so much to see here. And if you’re ready, I would love to visit your mother’s tomb while you’re here.”

Looking    at    the    woman    as    they    pulled    away    from    the    warm    embrace,    Leia    managed    to    keep    herself    calm,    cool,    and    collected.    It    was    the    first    time    she’d    had    the    opportunity    to    meet    her    family—    her    birth    mother’s    family,    really.    Perhaps    it    wasn’t    under    the    circumstances    she’d    have    ever    imagined    them    to    be,    but    she    was    just    happy    to    finally    meet    the    woman,    her    very    own    aunt.

“Padmé,” Sola was in shock, she hadn’t expected to see her younger sister, especially not in her current condition. Yet despite her shock Sola was able to open her arms to hug her sister.

“Wha- what are you doing here?”

"It's late you should be in bed."

Luke turned to face his aunt. He had been out on the balcony, taking in the calm of his home planet that he ha missed for so long. It was familiar and yet alien to him at the same time. Four years at war had changed him. Even now this sense of peace was clouded by a thought in the back of his mind that he was still fighting. But the war was over. He knew that and yet habits were hard to get rid of.

“I should be.” He agreed with his aunt. “It’s just so peaceful here. It’s been a while and I guess part of me is still adjusting to being back to a civilian life after four years at war.”

She knew why Luke had stayed away so long, and why he had never reached out, he had done it to protect the family. But it still hurt.

How many times had she gone to Padmé’s tomb and sobbed? Apologizing to her baby sister for not protecting her son better.

Putting on the kettle to boil, Sola turned back to Luke.

“Just… please don’t do something like that again, you know how I worry.”

He followed his aunt to the kitchen and watched her put on the kettle. As a child, he loved coming into the kitchen, trying to get a quick taste of the dishes were being cooked before anyone else or even cooking himself for the family. 

“I know. I just wanted to protect the family. I was pretty much considered the Empire’s number one enemy and my father’s obsession.” Not that he had to defend himself. His aunt knew and understood. “I hope that now the galaxy be at peace.”

He looked at his aunt. “I did manage at the beginnig of my involvment in the war to hear that Ryoo was alive and well.I was worried since the Emperor dissolved the Senate.”

Sola nodded, relief washing over her.

"Can I be honest?" She asked, barely waiting for her nephew to answer.

"When you were a baby, there were rumors that Padmé was alive and in hiding, but I knew that it wasn't so, she would have reached out somehow... that's what hurt the most when you disappeared, I kept waiting for you to reach out, but you never did. Just like she never did."

“Give what to you?” Padmé shot back, not doing a very convincing job of hiding the Holocron behind her back. “I don’t have anything.” This Holocron, in particular, she’d stolen from Palpatine and she was bound and determined to find out what was encased inside. She planned on bringing it to the Jedi Temple after lunch today.

"Whatever you have behind your back!" Sola laughed, playfully lunging at her baby sister, she laughed again when Padmé denied having anything.

"For a politician, you're a terrible liar."

“Of course.” Padme carefully passed Leia over to her sister. “You are the experienced mother out of the two of us.” She looked over at Luke who was sound asleep in his cradle.

Sola smiled and took her niece into her arms. It was true, Sola was the first to start a family, but she could already tell Padmé loved her children, and took very good care of them.

"She looks like you." Sola said, she could remember another little girl like Leia, who was well loved by all she met.

"How was the birth, were you well taken care of?"

Padme gently ran her finger over Luke’s tiny hand and he grabbed onto her finger tightly. She smiled down at her beautiful golden boy. “Thank you. She acts more like her father though.” She said jokingly.

“It was a little rocky. I didn’t find out I was having twins until I was already in labor, so I hadn’t had time to prepare. But Anakin was by my side the whole time.” She smiled softly to herself at the memory.

"I wish I could have been with you," Sola said, at least when she had given birth to her girls she'd had their mother. All Padmé had was Anakin.

"I'm just glad you're okay, and that you have your little ones."

Padme frowned sadly. “I wish you could have been there too, and mother. I know Anakin felt terrible that I couldn’t even tell you.” Anakin had always put Padme’s happiness above everything, even the importance of their secret marriage.

Her smile returned as she looked at her children. “Yes, they’re beautiful. Might be little Jedi one day. Anakin could already sense their presence in the force when I was still pregnant.”

Sola smiled, bouncing Leia in her arms, she was so small, after having her own children grow out of the infant stage, Sola found she often forgot how small newborns could be.

“Do you think they have the Force?” Sola asked, she didn’t know much about the Force, her brother-in-law did though, having been taken in by the Jedi when he had been a little boy.

Leia frowned at her aunt’s words. She was told by even her adoptive father that she looked like her mother but he rarely went into detail about what she was really like. “What did she look like?”

Sola smiled sadly, and reached for the holopic of her sister she kept in her pocket. Having Leia ask about Padmé was bittersweet.

"Here," Sola said handing her niece the holopic.

"She was a little older than you here, I carry it with me so she's always with me... we have more at the house if you're interested."

She had raised Luke as her own son, and loved him just as much as one of her own body. Padmé wasn’t here to do it, so it was up to Sola to make sure that Luke was loved.

“I’ll make you some tea, but then you need to go to sleep, it wouldn’t do for you to be exhausted when your sister arrives tomorrow.”

Luke folloed his aunt’s suggestion and came back inside. He had missed his aunt. He had always felt loved and secure in her home. Even if she was his aunt, he loved her as if she was truly his mother. 

“Tea would be lovely. Thank you, Aunt Sola.” He replied to her offer. His polite manner had not faded over the course of the war. “I know I said it before, but I did miss you during the war.”

She had raised Luke as her own son, and loved him just as much as one of her own body. Padmé wasn’t here to do it, so it was up to Sola to make sure that Luke was loved.

“I’ll make you some tea, but then you need to go to sleep, it wouldn’t do for you to be exhausted when your sister arrives tomorrow.”

“Yes. I hope you don’t mind. I wanted to show her where I grew up and she lost her home and her adopted parents. The Empire destroyed Alderaan four years ago. We’re the only family she now.” Luke told his aunt. Though maybe he should have asked for permission first. Then again, he hadn’t spoken to his aunt in four years. To be fair that wasn’t out of hatred, but rather out of love and a desire to protect his family.

“Leia is intelligent, kind, and a leader. She has a strong spirit too. She’s been there for me during these past few years. Despite everything that she’s lost, what the Empire and our father did to her, she fought for goodness, hope, and justice.” He said, but paused a moment when he realized he mentioned his and Leia’s father. “I really do have a lot to tell you, Aunt Sola. But Leia does know some things about our mother. Her adopted parents told her about mother and I told her some things. I think she’d like to pay her respects to mother during her visit here.”

“Your mother would like that.” Sola smiled at the thought of Luke and Leia going to pay their respects at Padmé’s tomb. But not a lot got past Sola, not with three children to raise.

“Your father?” The image of Anakin Skywalker young and fresh from the Jedi temple flashed through her mind, of course he would be older now, and Sola was no fool, it had been obvious to anyone with eyes how much Anakin and Padmé had liked each other.

He was obviously Luke and Leia’s father.

“I thought he was dead along with your mother... I didn’t know he had survived, Luke I’m so sorry.”
