Eleanor was born in 1768 to a prestigious name. The Hastings were a wealthy family, well respected and with tiles and land. She had been born fourth following two brothers and one sister. However, all died before she was born in one way or another, none living past the age of 10. When Eleanor was born, her parents were relieved and wouldnât let death take another Hastings child. Though, tragedy would strike soon after her birth and she would never know her birth family. When she was only a few months old, the Charbonneauâs passed through London and set their sights on the Hastings family.Â
She had been told there was lots of blood. Her parents had offered her up to the vampires that set foot in their home, begging and pleading for their own lives. Eleanor may have been the center of their world before but their selfish sense of survival soon took over. They begged and offered the infant as payment instead. Do what they wished with the child and spare them. In their minds, this child might not even live and they needed to continue the noble Hastings name. Estelle and Cressida took in the baby offered desperately to them with amusement. After the carnage and murder of her parents and the entire household, Estelle and Cressida Charbonneau finally turned to the crying infant. Call it fascination or pity or merely selfishness, but they took her in that day. That day Eleanor Hastings was no more and Eleanor Charbonneau was born.
She was raised in extreme wealth and self proclaimed royalty in the vampire world. Taken back to America at such a young age, Eleanor was raised to be another prodigy and member of the Charbonneau family. Estelle and Cressida became like mothers to her, but Eleanor knew of the differences between them, her new siblings and herself. They may have accepted her as one of them, but she knew a beating heart and human blood still flowed through her veins. For now of course. Her childhood had been strict, they had high expectations of those who would take on the Charbonneau name. After displaying softness and kindness at an early age, Eleanor was punished swiftly and learned quickly how to hide behind a perfect and cool exterior. She had the best education she could have received, flourishing before her mothersâ eyes. While they were strict, they had shown her kindness and true love in their own way. They truly saw her as one of their own, despite the human blood that still flowed in her veins. And for that she was grateful.
When Eleanor was 30 she was turned into a vampire. For many years, she had been raised to know that this would be the perfect transformation. Immortality was offered to her and she accepted. Everything Ele did was to survive. From hiding her kindness, to pleasing her mothers, to accepting the bite and the blood that would turn her into a vampire. For centuries she did as she was told and stood loyal by her family. She may have been quieter than her siblings, but she had the confidence of a Charbonneau raised like royalty. She learned how to play others, to play to the reputation of her family, and while she was perhaps not as cruel if left to her own intentions she would do what was needed to uphold the name. She hid her true self behind a cool and controlled exterior. Eleanor Charbonneau was the perfect addition to the family.Â
For centuries she stayed with her family, traveling when they did. She took a brief trip to England after the First World War to find out more about her birth family. Records existed of the Hastings and there was noted her death along with the others. Details of the deaths were lost to history, but she managed to track down living relatives. Her research of course stayed close to her heart and unspoken. It would not do for her adopted family to find out. They would deem it weak and feeble of her to dig it up. Ele still keeps tabs on her remaining human family, but they do not know of her existence.Â
In 1986 Ele got permission to move to New York City for some time. While she was there she pursed her interest in cooking and fine dining. Her mothers expected her to excel and to lead, and what better way than to have an accomplished restaurant. Until 2009 she stayed in the city and immersed herself in the culinary world that was arguably the best in the world. She learned all about cooking of every kind, owning and operating fine restaurants and more. She finally returned to Hollywood and opened her own restaurant called Lux. In the restaurant, Ele is truly happy and is proud of the fame and recognition the restaurant has received. She even cooks sometimes, and is working to earn even more stars.Â
Ele knows there is a lot expected of her as a Charbonneau and she is willing to do what is needed of her. Survival has been her game since the beginning and it has not stopped yet. Sheâll do whatever it takes, even if it means hiding her true self forever.Â
