“Hey, I’ll have you know since we’ve last seen each other, I’ve kept my ego nice and in line,” he promised her, though his devilish grin made it hard for anything to sound sincere out of him. “Just for that, I feel like I should make it my personal mission to bother you enough so you’re sick of me.” And with that, Mason bumped their shoulders together once more. This was a bad idea, the two of them alone like this. Already his mind was going to when they had passionately kissed outside these streets, right after her birthday party when she was still angry with him. They’d soon be in his flat, where memories of what they had done together in more rooms than he could count were already washing into his head, making it impossible to think of much else. She was everywhere in his memories of Darlington; the city would not be the same without her. There was an imprint of her in his life as much as his hometown itself.
She wasn’t wrong – there were quite a few people in his life that Mason couldn’t wait to see while home. But in this moment, he couldn’t regret her being the first friendly face he got. “No one, I swear,” he told her, his voice huskier than he had meant it to be. Feeling suddenly self-conscious, he cleared his throat a bit. Their eyes met at the mention of London, a pregnant pause between them before she spoke again. “You’ll see what you can do? Bloody hell, and here I thought I was a priority.” He clutched his heart dramatically, before guiding her to his front door. Pulling out the key from his pocket, Mason opened the door with one twist and held it out for her. “My place is a mess, since I just got home,” he admitted a bit sheepishly, guiding her up the stairs to his apartment, in case she forgot where it was. Opening his flat door, Mason was suddenly thankful he hadn’t tried unpacking yet at least. If that was the case, shit would’ve been everywhere. “I’m also not sure what I have to drink exactly. How do you feel about surprises?” he chuckled, going into his liquor cabinet.
“Well that’s good, because that means that there is less boosting that I need to do on my end, since it’s all boosted and satisfied on it’s own,” she muttered with a small smirk playing on her lips. If anyone told her in high school that by the age of twenty five that she would be holding hands with Mason Reeves and walking towards his house after a past filled with bodies tangled together under covers and lips locking together multiple times ; hell she would have called you insane. “Good luck,” she muttered quietly as her eyes focused on him once, bright blue hues locking with his for a few moments before she let a smile take over her features, eyes falling back on where she was stepping on the sidewalk. Darlington managed to feel empty without him in it, making it feel as though she had almost no one as she would turn around corners and bump into someone that wasn’t the Reeves male, her heart always pounding by the time she got home in time that he could Skype her and tell her about his day.
“Wow, looks like the tables have massively turned. Now you’re boosting my ego and making me feel as though I’m the most important around here.” It came out teasingly, but her eyes almost prayed that her analysis was correct, that he was just that interested in seeing her as she was about seeing him. “Now now, school is the main priority and you know that. Maybe during that week break that I manage to get we can sneak off and ignore the world again,” she muttered, her voice becoming more quiet as the words fell form her lips, free hand moving around in the air to just prove how awkward she was feeling about the topic of London, not wanting to come off as too eager. Acting as though she didn’t know the way up to the apartment, despite it being drilled into her mind since they began hanging around each other, Ellie followed the male into the apartment with a chuckle. “Cleaner than mine is. My roommate and I are still struggling to find all the take-out boxes laying around to throw out for garbage day. Oh ---- and you know, I’m always up for a surprise.”
