to be born a woman is to be born
a silent mouth
a heavy mind
a fearful ear
and noticing eyes
to be born a man is to be born
a king
a possessive hand
a disparaging thought
and quick lies
if i was born a man i’d be loud
i’d scream id shout
i’d get angry and i’d lash out
i would rule all that i could
no one to tell me no
i was born a woman
i will stand tall in hopes to be seen
that i could be picked before the boy in my class
because i swear if not more, i can run just as fast
to be born a woman is to want
more for you
more for your mother
more for your daughter who will wonder what they’d do
if they were born a man
