This is the soundtrack of my youth: it is still played at the start of a yearly fireworks event we have been attending faithfully for as long as I can remember. I love fireworks, and I always enjoy the build up to the spectacle in this truly magnificent song.

Nobody would ever mistake Depeche Mode for a disco band, but when Vince Clarck still wrote most of the material, their tone was clearly much lighter than in their later work.

Matia Bazar obviously didn’t start (nor end) as a synth pop band, but when synthesizers were part of the band, they certainly knew how to use them to their benefit.

I cannot believe that this amazing song has took so long to come to my attention. Love how he builds the intensity close to the point of unbearable, until the synths come in as a huge relief.

I simply love Robert Palmer’s take on the Gary Numan song. Sounds more polished than the original version, but also more forcefull.

The first song of the debut album of the Pet Shop Boys defined their style for the many years to come. So happy they chose to perfect their craft, rather than to substantially switch styles throughout their career.
