I honestly did not expect to feel any sympathy for Kuvira but she’s just so damn pitiful here. So vulnerable. She knew her methods were wrong, but she was determined to be the mother of a nation—the mother to her people, one she herself lacked. She failed to appreciate Su and the adopted family of which she came and became obsessed with control when her upbringing could not provide any in her life. Kuvira was never in control as a child, so she became a dictator to enforce her will and create a future that she could dictate.

Kuvira is by all means a terrible person. She committed heinous acts and betrayed so many. Her adopted mother, her fiancé, the woman who saved her from death. But I’ll be damned. They got me to sympathize with this character whom I’d thought was beyond redemption. Bravo, Bryke Team.
