After having printed on to silk paper. I was able to pick out all of the mistakes I did not even realise on the big screen so I went back in to photo shop and amended these mistakes. The main thing I wanted to fix was the front and back cover as I thought that it was very dark and you could not see the design on the front nor the back, also on the back you can barley see the model that I put in. Another thing was I was not happy with the paper, not been given a choice after asking the first time I went. I explained to the worker that I have come back to make some changes and I got it printed on to 160csm Matte paper instead and I was very happy with the outcome of that.
Evaluation
What I wanted to capture in my project, is the significant of love and relationships within everyday life’s.
I took great inspiration from Corrine Day, her raw, authentic, candid, style was something I wanted to capture.
Another artist I took inspiration from is Martin Parr, how the images that he captures are all so very humorous, random and different to the next. Every stranger he captures has there own story behind the photo and this is one success I have had from this project as when I went out to take my primary images, I was able to understand that behind humorous random and different photos there is usually a quiet deeper meaning, And a lot of the strangers that he came across in his photos may not have really been strangers after as I was able to form new relationships with the people that I came across from my primary research.and a lot of the strangers that he came across in his photos may not have really been strangers after as I was able to form new relationships with the people that I came across from my primary research
Using my primary research I was able to then create samples from them. I used my primary research To create a basis for my colour palette, are used the colours from my photos within my weave and other embroidery samples that I did I feel as if using these colours was very successful as they were all colours which symbolise the warm feeling of love and friendship.
Some of my samples which were not as successful as the others include a mono printing but if I was to go back and redo that sample I would not use netting and I would use colours that were more suited to my project as I feel like these two things would improve it a lot.
I feel as if at first my pleating samples and fringing samples were not the greatest, but using a thread that matched and having a bit more practice definitely helped and improve to make my sample look more professional.I feel as if at first my pleating samples and fringing samples were not the greatest, but using a thread that matched and having a bit more practice definitely helped and improved to make my sample look more professional.
The skills that I developed had been the use of impact free hand embroidery, as I have never done this before I was not feeling so confident but practising am testing out different techniques I thought improved it to be one of mystronger points so within my final piece I decided to combine the use of print and embellishment to build the layers up.
I feel as if my experimentation has been successful as I learnt which colours mix well together, how much died use to create different shades. I also was able and sublimation print to experiment with different types of materials such as wallpaper and netting which I found to give an interesting and unique affect but when it is in the heat press it tends to stick together and not always come off the material especially as I was using polyester crêpe bat Satin for my work which is a Delicate material so are used more textured fabric instead of using the wallpaper and netting.
To refine my project further on my final I could have neatened up the edges by sewing the edges them which would have given a crisper cleaner appearance.
I am pleased with my final outcome although it could be Further developed by turning my designs and prints into perhaps a garments such as a dress or a T-shirt and also incorporating the wave and crazy big embroidery which I could have used found objects.
This shows the process of the photoshop, a sublimation print.
These two are my final outcomes.
The top board represents my long term friendships. at the top of the board it displays a picture of my longest friend Megan and I.
I’ve chosen to use black and white, to represent the balance of the good times and the bad times. Relationships are not always going to be filled with happy times. What I have learnt after 13 years of a strong knitt friendship, is that there are going to be great times, amazing unforgettable memories; but in life there it is always about keeping that balance. There had been very many times within our friendship we may had not been as close, or seen each other that often, but then there’d be times we see each other everyday. Many many times of comfort.
I selected an image of Megan, my other friend Amy and my self, dressed as bunnies this year to use as a base for my design.
Using an object I found, a small plastic bag with a bunny symbol, I thought that this had a great personal significance to the three of us, I photo shopped a pattern of these and payed it over the primary image.
On top of the digitally printed photo, I used Disperse dyes, to cut out and paint red hearts out of different textured fabrics, I then overplayed this with embroidered hearts and bunnies.
The second board underneath represents new friendships that I have made and the initial craziness of them.
The unexpectedness and bold unpredictable nature of new friendships is what I have tried to capture in these samples.
I like the out come from this experimental sample, I used wallpaper and netting painted with Disperse dye, to create this print.
Although I very much like the outcome, I am going to say that it was not 100% successful as the netting and wallpaper stuck to the fabric and it was very hard to get it off, and if I use again I would have to find another alternative.
Leaf print sublimation
I created this sample using different textured materials, taking inspiration from my primary photo. I used netting and painted it with green Prozac dye and a textured material also for the red. I felt the green combination with the red was not. Strong sample, as the colours clash very much.
The pictures that I captured of Sophie; were taking at an abandoned, desolate after math of what once was a working factory, sadly to be burnt down.
I chose this location as it was almost a metaphor to how I was feeling at the start of the blog, once I found my self very alone.
The clothing that Sophie chose to wear, tied in completely with my theme of love and relationships. As red is usually associated with the thought of passion and warmth; also crossed with the strong black which is mysterious.
This sample was created by painting a textured wall paper blue with Disperse dye and then placing red painted leafs I found, to create this print.
I also then added some fringing in to it.
Knitt.. gone wrong ..
In this weave sample, I took inspiration from my photos to create a joyful colour pallet.
The next two pages in my sketch book; photos 10 years apart.
Funnily, they correlated massively.
Digging through old photos to find pictures of my friends, for this project. I came across some old photos, of when I went camping with the girl guides.
It came to my attention that these photos seemed awfully similar to the photos I took this year on my disposable camera!
This is my weave sample, which was shown earlier.
Also placed with an old season ticket from high school.
This was a very sentimental thing for me, as throughout the whole of high school, travelling to school everyday by train, many bonds and relationships were made, many many memories; having to get the train now commuting in to Birmingham, is strange as on my first week, it almost felt nostalgic being at the train station first thing in the morning and later again in the evening. Only different, as for the main reason I was travelling opposite directions; but I was travelling on my own, and making my way home on my own.
So in this second sample on this page, I’ve free embroidered; and created something very chaotic looking, it represents that love travels all over, but always stays connected.
This is a collage I made, of inspiration. I feel it represents, the craziness of of relationships go, the black black and white represent the good and the bad.
The red represents the love.
Again the netting represents a transparency.
I collected a Rizzla Paper, my friend Liv doodled, whilst I was sketch-booking.
A love heart, is a universal symbol for love.
You immediately think love, when you come across the heart shape.
This page in my sketchbook, shows a clipping that I took from a Vogue magazine. It is Dolce and Gabbana fall 2019. I took inspection from the use of netting. As you can see I chose to use a similar netting material in my sample to represent, the transparency that you should have within your relationships. To be transparent is to be completely open, have no have no lies or secrets to keep. To create this sample, I used a material call ; aqua film. Firstly I sandwiched together some materials I had cut up already. I then used free embroidery attach the fabrics inside together. [note: make sure the foot is always down on the sewing machine] I used a felt pen, to draw little heart shapes, to use as a stencil whilst free embroiding. Once I had finished I cut of the accesses fibre and washed it in the sink. The water dishes the aqua film leaving you with all the embroiled prices attached together I feel as if this sample was quite effective. I tried to watch my shapes, colours and materials to my theme.
