Here's the cover illustration of Astarion by @tkingfisher , a Baldur's Gate 3 novel, that I had the immense pleasure of painting for Penguin Random House and Wizards of the Coast!
Book is out on September 29th, 2026, and the audiobook will be narrated by Neil Newbon himself! (x)
Cheers, darling! 🥂🩸

I often see artists struggle to accurately capture Astarion's features but you've done such a lovely job! The casual readers who are unfamiliar with BG3 and Astarion will definitely get the vibe this character portrays to others just by your illustration. If Astarion had a book published about himself in Faerûn, I think this is a cover he would appreciate or even commission
You're kind to say so!! I spent many hours painting just his face because the other artists are right - his likeness is pretty tricky to get right! I'm glad he looks like himself to other people, I certainly tried to capture him as best I could. Haha he would! Thank you ❤
you can turn off the ai scraping on tumblr as efficiently as you can on any other site so. please come back!!
I know and I have - the thing is that I don't trust them :')
I already sell my soul on instagram and bluesky, I'm tired, I'm sorry 😔
Hope you don't mind a question about the cover of the Astarion novel, it looks impeccable but it looks more “Ascended Astarion the vampire lord” and not “Astarion the vampire spawn slave”, which seems to be what the book is about. Was this purposeful or to hint at something in the book? Or did they just give a general direction?
I totally get that - they gave me a very general direction only, I just found out it was a prequel on Friday when it was announced! It's a bit unusual to do covers with so little information but I just rolled with it, and since I knew the character well, I made some sketches leaning more towards one possible version of Astarion and others leaning more towards the other (to give them options), and figured that if there was something important in that regard, I would be told, so I could could correct it. It was all very smooth :) The only request they had from the beginning was that I should use the scar marks somehow. The rest is all me, painting Astarion as fabulous as I could!
Did you actually paint the cover? HOW COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope you can treat yourself to something nice!!! This is AWESOME
Indeed! Just me, my itty bitty hands, and my 17 year old tablet 😂
Thank you!! I'm just glad so many people are excited, and I'm looking forward to reading the book as well :)
