Thanks to kelso_sims on the gallery for their amazing Hill House build. The exterior is amazing and they closely matched the floor plan from the show, which is so cool! (iykyk)
The wonderful @unoriginalurl77 and I saw The Outsiders Matinee at Shea's on 9/21, so of COURSE we had to take notes! Shoutout to her for taking most of these notes<3
It was a great show! The cast is great and much the staging is very similar to Broadway!
Act One
The tire is much smaller
oh hey Paul Newman?? His face was SO BIG projected on the entire back drop. Also the word "Violation" was on the screen several times which really made me laugh it was just so vivid.
Soda tried to help Cherry down from the balcony at the beginning.
The girls all hugging each other was cute!
a board fell and one of the greasers picked it up and gave a "what the hell!" Arm gesture up at the Soc's,
when Pony was kicked in the head by Paul, lots of the audience GASPED. The audience reactions at certain points was such a reminder that not everyone knows the show
Soda chasing the Socs off with chains was much more obvious
Darry lugged Pony like a sack of potatoes :)
Ponyboy was so petulant on the "its the only place playing the new Paul Newman movie :(" He felt SO YOUNG in this production, that is a 14 year old!
Soda does in fact take his shirt off!
Johnny has SUCH a deep voice!
when Dally said "only the lord knows what I was doing at 14" Soda mimed humping someone / motioned to his dick
When Two-Bit hopped in with the "got one of their hubcaps!" He held it over his ass. Like mooning but with a hub cap instead of bare skin.
He also responded with "yep!" when they asked about if Two had his grease, which took me out personally as someone expecting him to say no.
Soda was so affectionate with Darry in GGaH hehe. He was blowing kisses a couple times (or I suppose he could have been blowing smoke, but I am choosing to believe it was kisses). He also cradled Darry's face at the beginning and always was dancing at him whenever he was near.
Soda framed Pony's face with his hands like he was getting him ready for his close-up in GGaH
Soda and Two-Bit were kinda crazy with their humping today in GGaH, like it was INTENSE
After Soda thwacked them in the balls, Johnny and Pony CRUMPLED and were still crawling on the ground during Two-Bit's verse.
Travis!Darry looks so YOUNG in this !! Everyone seems so young but I feel like with Pony and Darry it hits the hardest
when Darry shut the car hood before RITF it was so LOUD and attention grabbing,
Darry had a lot of growl in his voice.
He also spoke very fast, his banter with Pony was like watching a tennis match.
in the bed scene, Soda sounds like he's CRYING when talking about Sandy, but then he got hammy with it and was clearly playing around with his "sobs" by the "maim that handsome face of yours" line.
Johnny's parents fighting was scaryyy, you could hear it quite clearly
someone at the drive in (Steve?) was playing air guitar on a cooler
Dally had to move Two-Bit's leg off the bench when he went to sit next to Cherry
Pony and Johnny took their SWEET TIME going to sit next to Marcia and Cherry. Lots of brushing themselves off and looking each other over and they even sat in slow motion, the moment dragged in the funniest way
Marcia had a bit more spice to her in Act One!
Bev and Marcia were holding hands at one point
The i can talk to you all night slow mo was very fun...lots of teens making out and Ace heckling Bev
Bob and Cherry's argument was so SCARY. Mark Doyle was terrifying as Bob! The audience was also laughing during the argument ??
Soda gave both Ponyboy and Johnny a high five when he heard they were talking to Cherry
During RITFR, Pony had a moment where we think we was stimming on his chair, but unfortunately it did look like he was.... uh.....jerking it.
Soda was using his full body to comfort Pony- instead of just a hand on the shoulder, he was fully turned, both hands holding Pony, trying to get him to focus on him instead of Darry
When Pony spoke in that song he sounded like he was CRYING wa I love him :(( such a watery "if you hate it so much you should just leave."
Johnny flinched during ritfr and Soda went to comfort him, but he also flinched at Soda :(
Darry was smacking the table a lot during the end as opposed to getting physical with Soda- Soda did try to intervene, but Darry pushing him back into the chair was much more gentle than usual.
Someone Cheered when Darry slapped Pony??
The LIGHTS were so bright it was really imersive ! like when Pony got knocked out and during the fountain scene it was a little disorienting !!
People GASPED and "oh!"ed during the pre-run run brother fountain fight. Starting at a big reactions when Pony spit at Bob and continuing to the stabbing
Johnny's hands were SO RED after he stabbed Bob
Dally was very gentle with Pony and Johnny during RRB
During RRB, Soda, Two-Bit, and Darry all seemed to be talking to each other- they were gesturing around. I've only seen it before where they're just standing there and singing!
Act Two
those flashlights ARE BRIGHT !! Lit up the entire audience where it was shining
Marcia was getting tugged around hard when she was pulled from Cherry!! And multiple times too! This Marcia seemed like she was fighting against the other Socs more, but eventually was defeated enough to give in
Johnny was so gently petting Pony's hair while cutting it ;-;,
There WAS a post DAMD hug!
LOTS OF LAUGHS at the Julie Andrew's joke
Johnny & Dally full body hug!! Johnny ran into his arms when he went to visit them at the church
Pony went in for a hug too and Dally did NOT HUG HIM immediately, he commented on his hair first
When Soda broke up the fight between Darry and Dally, Darry got THROWN across the stage
Darry flinched away from Soda the first time he tried to touch him during TiTT ;-; A lot of people flinch away from Soda in this show :(
Soda was holding Darry's head and swaying him during TiTT and they did have a full body hug
Soda's Letter was very sweet!!! Soda was much more subdued- he wasn't being goofy during his "sincerely, Soda" as I've sometimes seen it played!
He also walked forward during "Pony what's been done is done, there's only so far you can run" and he was almost pleading with him.
Johnny sounded DISTRAUGHT when he was giving his "we have to go back" speech and Dally seemed equally as upset
The stage started filling with smoke slowly after the cigarette was thrown
THE FIIIIRE the lighting and smoke effects were SO COOL!!!!!! Worked really well!!
Two-Bit's voice during HtH !!! He was GROWLY!!!! It sounded so good!

the Socs were all passing a flask of alcohol around and drinking it before the rumble during Hopeless War
Darry and Soda did share a cigarette before Hopeless War!
Someone almost fell off the stage during the rumble (Twice!). Unsure who it was the first time but the second time it was Soda!
Pony's "there he is" when Johnny woke up in the hospital was SO GENTLE!!
Soda fully WRAPPED HIMSELF around Pony to hug and comfort him after Johnny died, he was also trying to gently pry Pony away from holding onto Johnny's bed.
Pony was crying while narrating Dally's suicide
Soda was crying throughout the whole last scene. He kept wiping his eyes and his voice kept breaking.
When Darry said "because you're our brother and we love you," Soda stared at him in awe before Darry continued
"hello Darrel, Sodapop." "Hey" "Hi" Soda sounded so young and Darry sounded so defeated.
Pony picked up Johnny's letter and we got concerned that maybe he'd skipped Soda asking about reading it, but a second later he dropped the letter and buried himself in Johnny's clothes. Soda was sobbing through the "you ain't even gonna read it?" Line
Darry also began crying during the last scene. Travis Darry seemed like he was running on fumes- like he was just so exhausted from everything he's been through that he doesn't even have the capacity to cry, so when he did, it SHOCKED me!
A phone rang while Pony was giving him "I got more inside me than just grease" and this went on for a good 30-45 seconds. Shoutout to the actors for never breaking because I was exploding the person with my mind.
Darry served Soda and then Pony and then himself in the last scene :)
Bev is the one who twirled Brill under her arm in the finale

A bunch of the cast ran to the table and began eating
during bows there was also a projection of the band up on the stage!! It was sooo cute!! They waved !
we saw Corbin and Jaydon at the stage door after the show! We didn't stop but they were very sweet and smiley from what we heard and saw :)
I got to watch "Is God Is" last night and I loved it I also love the fact that the director/writer was inspired by Greek tragedies which made sense watching it
