Architectural surrender by eli
Erect
it stands
a colosus of naked concrete,
Steel beams for bone.
Its bare body
surfaces glisten
in the rain,
and shade us
in late august heat.
we huddle and hold each other
across the brutal station
Slithering trains penetrate the quiet
with moans and grunts of rails,
hitting and hurting and holding on to carts,
heavy with baggage,
We tremble.
we fail.
We die,
but only
a little.

as moss snuggles across the stone walls.
wet-worn carpets, painted in fungal kisses, squash under your feet -
hang them up to dry, clean them with soda and alcohol
for baking and rubbing
of course
this wasn't always like this.
once, when held, i heaved heavily
like wind through a tunnel,
in and out, in and out
smacking the walls
and revealing pockets
of air and dew.

current thoughts on museum of unconditional surrender: I'm currently in the first third of this book but wow, what a gorgeous book, a compilation of vignettes to describe living in exile, of losing your home, it feels true to today's events as much as it probably felt when ugaresic wrote it in 1997...
i highly recommend it as of now, but you must have a lot of focus and imagination to be able to handle it, it took me a couple tries before i finally managed to get into it so deeply but once i figured out how to read it i could barely put it down. even now i want to go back into the text, sink my teeth into it and break my jaws on the prose

update on museum of unconditional surrender: i finished it!!! i never knew prose could be done this way. it's truly formed like a museum in its writing, it's so wonderful and gorgeous and i want all of you to try it out, imagine seeing into scenes of life and let yourself envision every moment. it's beautiful and it's nonfiction which is wild because this book READS like a surrealist dream and yet it's all grounded (except for the angel penis thing but she explains that was a dream. you'll get it if you read it)

ELI HAS A NEW PERSONAL CHALLENGE/PROJECT! WEEWOOWEEWOO
ok so basically I've started a new challenge and a new ritual:
i mainly read books on my ereader or listen to audiobooks. i am very tired of algorithms, and so I've started a new thing where i am trying to read every unread book in my home library by the end of 2027 (that's around when i move to germany and leave all my books behind). this project's really fun and in five days I've already finished two books I've wanted to get to for year and I'm starting two new ones that I'll probably finish by the end of the week godwilling.
i have also started a new ritual!
I'm very tired of algorithms so every day i take my cd player and one of the many cd's i found at my grandma's house and read a physical book/write in ny journal while my phone is far away until the current disc ends. this is super fun and I'm already feeling a lot better day-to-day with this off-phone-time

thoughts on what stalks the deep by t kingfisher:
obviously i loved it because the sworn soldier is forever and always a comfort read series for me.
i think the scientific aspect was very fun and the speculative evolution was super intriguing
however i will say this felt a little less magical to me than what moves the dead (honestly so did what feasts at night) and that's probably because it's not (to my knowledge) based on a preexisting story like what moves the dead which is a house of usher retelling.
anyways, lovely read, missed these novellas, will obviously read the next book when it comes out.

i am writing it here so it is set in stone: I'm going to read the entire philip pullman lyra series (his dark materials, and the book of dust)

slow dancing
she runs into me full force
she pushes me to the ground then up again.
lifts me high into the air and twirls my senses into blurry silhouettes of movement.
she's excited and never stops tiring.
sometimes i feel the urge to go to the benches and breathe. but she sntaches my arm. "you're not getting rid of me."
i sigh and come back to her,
angrier,
faster,
i push back when she tries to throw me off
i stop
i breathe
i start letting go.
"im not getting rid of you"
i come back to the dance.
slower now, like molasses, like peat, like plants.
it's less attractive, less powerful,
but i can breathe now.
i can move with the rhythm
we're not getting rid of each other yet.
ok so! i finished two books recently and haven't gotten to talk about them
Gideon The Ninth was the first i finished this week (review coming soon!!)
and "A Psalm For The Wild Built" was a lil novella i started monday and finished today while i was sick and had no energy for big stuff. (review also coming soo!!!)
today a friend lent me the goldfinch so I'm trying it out, but I'll probably try to continue and hopefully finish harrow the ninth and the milkyway book! anyways. wish me luck!
