hi i’m seer and i never learned how to write narrative and descriptive texts but i came up with some headcanons last night and i can only get them out in the form of messy outlines so here ya go i gUESS.
- Maes is the third and last child. His parents are neglectful at best and he’s never been a big fan of them.
- Country boye and natural attention seeker. He’s also the kind of kid that would talk to inanimate objects and animals.
- Starts going by “Maes” around the age of 16-17. A toddler fails to pronounce his name right and he thinks it’s cute and it just sticks to him since then.
- Got kicked out of the house around the same age and wanders around for about any job for money so he can like, Live. He also starts to smoke so it makes it a little bit harder.
- He first met Gracia when he got pickpocketed and Gracia helped him get his wallet back. She offered him dinner because he mentioned that he hasn’t eaten and he just can’t refuse. They don’t meet again until years later.
- Speaking of, Maes can pickpocket and lockpick.
- Enlists himself as soon as he’s able to because free food?? free roof to live under?? free education?? And he got paid for being a cadet??? count him in.
- He lied about being a dropout, and being a ‘gifted child’ it’s kinda hard for him to catch up, but he’s able to figure out how to manage after a while. Honestly he’s a bit surprised that he managed to be appointed at all.
- He’s pretty popular at the academy. He’s just the kind of guy that everyone would know because he’s just so nosy and friendly, but Roy and Heathcliff are his first actual friends
- Roy and Heathcliff’s ambitions get him inspired so he starts to think about how he would get his life together. Maes just made up why he enlisted on the spot because he’s only been friends with them for like half a day he doesn’t wanna tell them something too personal yet.
- Besides he loves making people laugh so that’s a big bonus point for him.
- Tries to stop smoking after Ishval because he associates the smoke and the smell with unpleasant things. It’s difficult considering he’s pretty much an addict at that point, but he’s trying.
- He adopted the toxic “men talk with their actions” mindset from his parents and that really doesn’t help with his traumas. There also weren’t a lot of people for him to talk to since his childhood so he finds it really difficult to be open about himself to others.
