Andrew had barely come out of the ecstasy of that slow kiss when Elijah said he could imagine giving up the profession for any sort of lifetime with him, but those words made his heart skip a beat. The game kept on getting more and more dangerous, or so said the cynical voice in the back of his head – but when he opened his eyes again, Elijah didn’t look like he was playing. In fact, Mikaelson retreated so quickly from his words, taking them back decisively, asking for forgiveness as if he actually believed he might have done something wrong. Andrew narrowed his eyes at the man, studying him for a moment before realizing what this felt like.
It felt like Elijah didn’t know how to take what he wanted. Or, perhaps he knew perfectly well how to do it, but didn’t believe that he could – or that he should. To say that it wasn’t his place when speaking of something he wanted, to just immediately slip back into the professional facade that both of them really should have been wearing all evening – Andrew wondered just how many times Elijah had let go of the chance to reach out and hold onto something, or someone, he wanted.
He should have said something. He should have said that it was fine. Or, even better, he should have confirmed that Elijah was right to think he shouldn’t say such things. He should put his own icy exterior back on and stop this train from derailing as rapidly, and as thoroughly, as they both seemed to want it to –
But, instead, Andrew shook his head. He was lithe and flexible enough to be comfortable doing nearly anything, so he didn’t hesitate at crawling over there, straddling the escort with his knees on the seat, and taking his face in his hands. Fear was racing through Andrew’s veins, because this could be such a mistake, because he never let himself feel anything – but fuck the fear. Forcing Elijah to look at him, he shook his head once.
“Don’t ask forgiveness for finding something you want,” he said, the words soft but vehement. If Elijah really felt compelled to be like that, Andrew would fight for him. He kissed Elijah again, more passionately than the last kiss, as if a kiss could impress just how much he meant those words.
It was a strange world when a man who had never figured out how to fight for his own heart was suddenly more than willing to fight for another’s, but Andrew had never made a habit out of second-guessing his decisions. Once they were made, they were made. He never looked back, never let himself regret – so he kissed Elijah as if there was nothing but a future, as if Elijah had already been promised a lifetime with him –
He’d deal with any pain when it came. For now? Andrew did something he’d never done before in his life – he kissed someone like he belonged with them. He kissed him like he’d never heard of the word goodbye.
As for the driver, he had long ago put the privacy screen up. He smiled to himself as he took a somewhat more scenic route back to Gale’s building. Whatever was going on between the two, he’d never actually seen Mr. Gale look as happy as he had when he and the handsome stranger got out of that show.
He drove carefully, giving them as smooth a ride as he could.
