Dancers of the Royal Ballet in Giselle — by Bill Cooper
"The Empress Elizabeth, for she it was, had at that time a very youthful gipsy -like expression, with brown laughing eyes and rather a roguish smile on her lips. She was very tall and graceful, and I remember remarking her long flowing dress, like a train, and her small, rather coquettish bonnet. I saw the Empress again, riding in the Prater, in a dark blue habit, with her long glorious plaits hanging down to her waist. She sat her horse well, and was a fine and intrepid rider.
Another time we were bidden to an evening party at Court and duly presented to their Majesties. The Empress was all in white, with great gleaming knots Chapter of emeralds in her wonderful hair. During the evening, ^whilst she and Lady Dudley were seated together on a sofa. Lord Dudley said to me, " There are the two most beautiful women in the world." And I thought he was right. Poor Empress, her life was a sad one, but not so abnormally sad as that of the Emperor!"

Slippers of Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna Romanova, which the Grand Duchess wore at the age of 9-12 years in 1905-1908. The eldest daughter of Russian Emperor Nicholas II, the last tsar of Russia, was known for her lively personality. She loved to read and was described as a hopeless romantic. These slippers offer a glimpse into the childhood of a young princess during the early 20th century. Photograph: Craig Cutler for LIFE. July 13, 2011.

I hope Kate bring back the chocolate hair someday
i hope she does in time for the big state events, oh the dark hair against the diamonds... there is a reason why no one could rock the girls like her maj. dark hair contrasting the bright diamonds, just fabulous. i'm saying this as a natural blonde btw
Empress Elisabeth hair style when?
this would give me a heart attack but in a good way
Useless facts of the day
Elisabeth's fav English pilot during hunting day was Capt. William George "Bay" Middleton (16 April 1846 – 9 April 1892), equerry to John Spencer, 5th Earl Spencer. His fathers name was James Middleton.
No, Bay and Kate aren't related afaik. He had an affair with Lady (Henrietta) Blanche Ogilvy, who was the great-aunt of Angus Ogilvy and Henriettas daughter Clementine is said to be Bays daughter, who married Winston Churchill.
if there were any lawyers in the family, the middletons are most likely related to them. michael middleton descends from a family tree that was covered in barristers in the 19th century
Let me research this..I opened the wiki page of her family and it never fails to make me laugh how she was portrayed as descending from idk, hoodlums. All I see is a successful family, but the class system there is on crack.
unfortunately they had no prefixes in front of their names, which in the eyes of the press means they were probably baking bread and killing each other with rocks :(
