The load screens talking about Daniel's fear of Henry Bedloe and subsequent lashing out at him nicely parallel his descent into seeing torture as a viable way to beat the Shadow imo.
In both cases Daniel feels as though he is up against a force he has no real control over and one that threatens to cause HIM immense harm if he doesn't do SOMETHING about it and that something in both cases winds up being violence as an option.
I also don't think it's a coincidence that in both cases peer pressure is a huge part of the problem as well. Whether its the children cheering him on or Alexander whispering in his ear that torture is totally chill man, Daniel gives in to violence when he is given 'permission' to by others very easily and it seems he's been that kind of person his whole life.
I don't think Daniel has been an evil man his ENTIRE life by any means but he's always had the capacity for it and ain't that what all these games are about when we look at them up close. The capacity for evil and what one is willing to do/sacrifice for what they find the right choice to be. 🥲🥲🥲
