The Bronx 1970s

Hip-hop and rap music began rising as a form of protest towards the living conditions of projects in the Bronx, and spread throughout New York before making its way to the rest of the country. This form of poetry was an outcry from ghettos across the nation; a plea for equal opportunity, inhabitable living spaces, safe neighborhoods, basic necessities, and so on.

From the late 70s to late 80s, an alternative form of music now known as hip-hop quickly made its way from the slums of New York to the global media, and has since remained as one of the most innovative and inspiring forms of music. To this day, the historical roots of hip-hop can be found throughout New York. The picture above shows the late Notorious B.I.G; the King of Brooklyn.
