So I realized I've never done an about post in all the time I've been here. Not that I'm here often, but I should have something to tell everyone who I am. I'm Alexander, a traveling trainer for now, working on joining the ranks of the elite four.

I've specialized in dark type pokemon all my life. I grew up in Fortree city, same as my dad, and caught my partner Poocheyena when I was seven. I started my journey officially at ten, but I'd been battling with my friends for years at that point, so I was pretty good already. In the hoenn League, I also met my Absol, as well as a Nuzleaf and Carvanha. After finishing the Hoenn league when I was eleven I donated Shiftry and Sharpedo to a rental battle program. I kind of regret it now, I do miss them, but I was initially planning on slowing down and relaxing when I went back to my family.

When I was 13, I moved with my parents to Unova, where my mom's originally from. I decided to try the gym challenge there, too, and I ended up catching a Deino and Pawniard along the way. It took a while, the gym leaders were definitely holding back less since I'd already finished one gym challenge, but I cleared the unovan league as well.

I turned sixteen not long after and decided to go out and see more of the world. I ended up in Sinnoh, where I caught my Spiritomb, and that's been my party ever since. I'm 25 now, almost ten years later and I'm still trying to join the ranks of the elite four.

Answers to common questions:

I've never been in a fight with a terrorist organization. Team Aqua and team magma were arrested before my Hoenn journey, and Team plasma was disbanded before I arrived in Unova. I've never run into one anywhere else either miraculously. I'm starting to think beating one is a requirement to joining the elite four.

I'm a dark type trainer because I like dark types, they're cool. You'd think Sydney would be my inspiration to be a dark trainer, but it was actually Karen. I'd watch her battles on TV growing up, and she was always so cool. That's probably why I want to be in the elite four as well.

No, you cannot pet Mightyena. He's skittish around new people and will bite when startled. And not just bite, he uses crunch. He's really quite friendly but you have to respect him.

I'm able to afford being a wandering trainer by spending a lot of time foraging and making money in exhibition battles. I've got a team of strong, well-trained pokemon and know how to put on a show, so I can make enough to take care of us when we're not out in the wilderness.

I kept Mightyena and Absol after my Hoenn League because I knew I'd be able to take care of them, and they are my closest partners. I'd be less of myself without them.

⚾-Do you participate in sports? If no, do you have a favorite?

I'm fairly active just due to my lifestyle as a trainer but outside of Pokémon battles I would say not really. As for watching, I only really get combat sports. Stuff like baseball or football or unovan football is a bit too high concept for me I think. Like, in boxing you win because you punched your opponent in the face, that makes sense, none of all this extra throwing a ball around stuff.

kanto/johto have a train line running through that's massively improved infrastructure and transit, and people use it all the time. it even has a mascot, Tohjo-chan the meowth, who was born of the love of Kanto-san and Johto-kun.

Hoenn has... not much. they have ferries i guess.

Sinnoh has the trams, at least! and ferries!

UNOVA HAS AN EXTENSIVE RAILWAY SYSTEM WITH COURTEOUS STAFF AND A HERITAGE RAILWAY THAT DOES MONTHLY TOURS.

alola has. well, ferries, yes, but their public transit is more of a community ride-share. which works for them and does minimal disruption to the land, but it's a little bit of a stretch to call it public transit

I like battling, so I took the Hoenn and Unova gym challenges. Most of my battles are in large stadiums now, but that's more a function of needing to make money in some way. It's honestly just for fun, at the end of the day.

Chat if a challenger just straight up decks the gym leader with an absolute haymaker right to the temple, should that be classed as a victory? The refs are arguing because technically the leader is unable to battle (being unconscious and all), but also their pokemon still are able to battle. Personally I think it should depend on gym leader. If punching that specific leader takes some serious guts or if it would make the crowd feel a collective sense of relief then I think they should get the badge.

Helping my cousin with her gym challenge. It kinda meant putting my life on hold more or less for the last few months, re-tracing the Hoenn gym challenge at my aunt's request as her rival. I'm not sure I'd say I was the best rival for her, a friend who was closer to her age probably would have been better, but I had fun. I've been pretty locked in with my team for a while, so they weren't the most appropriate to battle against a new trainer with, so I had to train a new wild caught pokemon. I've not done that in a few years at this point, it was a fun change of pace from my usual battle training.

It was great when she finally made it to Ever Grande City though. We finally got to battle with me going almost all-out. I'd seen all the hard work she'd put in planning out strategies against my usual team, I didn't want to invalidate all of them even if I had seen them before and knew how to beat them. She was so excited when she won. It took her a few more days to manage to get all the way through the league challenge after that but I can't forget the look on her face when she finally finished her gym challenge. I've been trying to become a member of the elite four for awhile at this point, and it was nice taking a break from trying so hard, especially doing something that almost felt like being in the elite four for a brief moment.

I wouldn't say there was much how, really. I just said yes. I guess I thought about my own experience taking the Hoenn and Unova gym challenges. She grew up in a pretty small town, even for Hoenn's standards, so she's always been pretty lonely. There wasn't anyone her age taking the gym challenge like I had my first time. I suppose I didn't want her to be alone.

Thank you, I really appreciate it, but it's almost a waiting game at this point. I'm from the Hoenn and Unova regions, so I have the best shot of joining the elite four there. But between Sydney and Grimsley, they've both got a dark type trainer covered. Other regions would be nice, but tend to go with locals for their elite four members.

So you're saying you didn't put all that much thought into it then?

And that may be true, but even when one of those slots opens up, you're hardly going to be the only person applying. And often times for positions like the Elite Four they do internal promotions and then hire to fill the lower position. For myself, I was a gym leader for years, then got the job as a receptionist at headquarters, and THEN finally got promoted to Elite Four. It's pretty rare to see external hires for these types of jobs.

And inter-regional transfers aren't as rare as you'd think. In Paldea alone, two of our champion ranked trainers are immigrants, and Larry moved over here from Sinnoh a few years back. Leagues do trade their players. All this to say, I think getting some experience working in a League - any League - is going to do wonders for you when that dream job opens up.

I wouldn't say exactly that. My aunt asked me and I knew that I would regret saying no more than I would be troubled saying yes, if that makes sense. If I'd said no I'd be bothered about it the rest of my life thinking I should have said yes, and I don't want to live like that.

And I guess that makes sense, but even so, that means waiting for a spot as a gym leader or something similar to open up, which isn't terribly common. I've also noticed this sort of... stigma, I guess, around dark type gym leaders in particular. Galar is the only region I can think of off the top of my head with a dark type leader, everywhere else seems to avoid them.

Im short: I've seen very little actual Pokémon-battle content on rotomblr despite almost everyone being a trainer or having trainer experience.

So i though maybe a blog organising in-universe tournaments or battles in general could help? Basically, there'd be tournaments all around the poke-world and characters can participate and battle and win (or lose). The goal is to make posts about cool pokemon battles, not necessarily to play pvp battles on showdown (though you can do that as well).

I've had this thing for five fucking years. It has survived everything from storms, to fire, to divine light. This thing has been stabbed, flattened, crushed, thrown, and smashed and all that happened is the screen cracked a bit. It is indestructible.

My Hydreigon has used mine as a chew toy before and there are barely any teeth marks. I think you could seriously injure someone with this thing if you threw it hard enough.
