Here We Go Again
Looking around, he couldn't find even the slightest reason why he belonged there for the third year. The doors were easily three times his height, darkly stained and thicker than any doors he'd ever seen. The walls of the building were made with a dark brick, windows placed evenly all around. Elixr could see a mass of people through each window and even the doors that were propped open, welcoming the new students for the new school year.
"Another year, another group, another reason to get out of here." Elixr rolled his eyes and turned to his older brother with a grin. "You wanna join me?"
"Elixandr, get your ass in there and get your class schedule. Why can't you ever just be normal?" Chuckling and shaking his head, Jaxon shoved Elixr towards the doors and walked off.
"I can't stand your ass, Jax!" Elixr started walking backwards towards the doors, staring at his brother and flipping him off with a grin. "You better not flake tonight!"
"Excuse you, I'm trying to walk here." A firm shove from behind him causes Elixandr to freeze and turn around, coming face to face with an annoyed glare on a 'too pretty' face. "Do you mind?"
Elixandr just stares at the girl, his usual smirk sitting on his face as he tries to figure out who he's looking at. "I do mind, actually. Who are you? Oh, and my bad miss. I didn't see you there." He shrugs and takes a step back to get a better look at her.
She glances at the boy, feeling annoyed by his shit-eating grin, yet she was also soothed by it. It reminded her much of her father, whom she missed dearly- both her parents actually, but she tried not to think about that too much. Millie wasn’t one to wear her emotions on her sleeve as she was always taught that vulnerability could lead to her demise. She pulls her attention away from him, directing it towards the sea of people.
“Then maybe you should watch where you’re going.” She rolls her eyes, not bothering to let him get her worked up.
“Are you not going to introduce yourself?” The boy furrows his brows, watching her, tilting his head to the side.
Millie continues to wait in what was supposed to be a line, wishing she could just skip to the front. It’s only a class schedule. What happened to single filed lines ? Alphabetical order? Is this how the start of her junior year as a transfer student to Briarwood Heights would truly go? Disorganized and annoyed by a giant with blue eyes? He’s as tall as her uncle Moose. Maybe if she ignored him he’d go away.
“I’ve got all day, you know?” He rocks back and forth on his feet, sliding his hands into his pockets.
Millie pulls out her phone, hoping to pretend to check a message or something, but of course, there was no service. She could feel her cheeks warming as her irritation grew.
“What’s the fucking hold up with this line?” The outburst escapes her.
The cacophony of the room came to a sudden stop as eye’s immediately raced to her.
“Young Lady.” A voice boomed from the front of the crowd. It seemed to part the sea of people in front of her. “What is your name?” A tall, elderly man stood in a black and maroon robe with gold accents. His beard hung low and was as a white as snow.
She stood tall, keeping her eyes on the, obviously important, man.
“Millie, sir.” Her voice is firm, followed by an awkward smile and the urge to run away and hide.
She’d never do that, no matter how much she wanted to.
“Amelia, is it? We’ve been expecting you here at Briarwood. Your record truly matches your .. eager spirit to learn and grow. However, this building is for returning students. New students and transfers must report to Anubis Hall for your welcome lecture and class schedules. From there you’ll be joining everyone for the welcome ceremony and breakfast. Don’t be afraid to ask for guidance, your peers are here to assist you. And please, refrain from the use of profanity in the future.”
He sits and just like that, everything returns to normal. She’s got her dad to blame for the anger issues. Once annoyed, she becomes a ticking bomb. At least no one could see the look of embarrassment on her face…. except the boy. There’s that grin again. He seems impressed.
Exlir just smirked as he watched the girl walk off towards Anubis Hall, a tinge of pink to her face as she went. He couldn't help himself as he called after her in an overly proper tone, "Yes miss Amelia, please do watch your profanity. Some of us have sensitive ears, my dear."
Professor Jamison gave him a look of disapproval but had a hint of a smile on his bearded face, used to Elixandr's quirks. "Mr. Laynn, a word please?"
With one last look at the girl, Amelia, as she sashayed her way across campus, her bag bigger than her, he walked past the long line of students in front of him and went straight to the front.
"Sir?" He knew his voice held a note of respect because Jamison was one of the few members of the staff at Briarwood who didn't treat him and his friends like trash.
Professor Jamison shook his head, noting the looks being thrown their way. Some curious, some angry, but most just impatient and ready to get to their dorm rooms to get ready for tonight. "I must ask that you not give our transfers and new students the wrong impression. This year is a very important year for Briarwood and we all want it to be as smooth of a transition as possible, am I correct?" He took a moment to stroke his beard as he gave Elixandr a serious look. "That being said, I do hope I can trust you to give Miss Amelia a helping hand should she need it. It should be simple given you have the same schedule."
"I apologize, Professor. I would be glad to help out a fellow student, especially one so new. Would you happen to have a copy of that schedule for me, sir?" Elxir wasn't even surprised he had the same schedule. She wasn't high class, snobby, rude and overly classy. That meant she had to be a hunter or a delinquent, and we all had the same classes because no parent wanted their child to be around a bad influence and no super wanted their child around a hunter. Accepting the packet he was handed, Elixr looked the professor in the eyes and nodded, "She's got a friend in me, sir."

A few hours later
-----
Elixandr glanced at his reflection and nodded. It would do. The party started in half an hour and he still needed to make sure his brother was ready.
Jaxon rolled his eyes as his brother came into his room without so much as a knock. "Can I help you?"
"Just making sure you're getting ready." Elixr smirked at the older of the two twins, by eight minutes. "Can't have people thinking my twin isn't as cool as me." Elixr laughed as Jaxson rolled.his eyes, a smile playing on his lips.
"I saw you with that new transfer earlier, the one Professor Jamison spoke to this morning. Showing her around or have you already found your first conquest of the year?" Jaxon laughed at the look on his brother's face, knowing damn good and well that Elixr didn't have conquests because he was always too busy getting into trouble. "Let's go, bro. Your girl is waiting for us downstairs."
Elixr gave Jaxon a confused looked, head tilted to the side a bit. "Why would she be downstairs? I didn't invite her."
Jaxon laughed and walked out of his room, "I did, but I'm pretty sure she thinks I'm you. Crazy considering I'm taller and hotter, but it's true dear brother. You should have seen her face when you walked off and I walked up from the opposite direction. I'm sure she thinks you're a warlock."
