I wanted to share my horoscope from yesterday (8/9). The reading was about how ineffective worrying is for ourselves and our goals in life. Instead of worrying, let's identify the problem and change the way we think about a certain situation so we can overcome it. If we charge through our worries, we can conquer a lot more than if we allow our worries to get in our way. My horoscope sums it up perfectly! I had to share: "Something is on your mind, and you probably think that it's reasonable to worry about it. After all, worry could help you to come up with a solution, right? Actually, it isn't worry that finds solutions - it is creative brainstorming driven by positive goals. Worry keeps good ideas at bay because the fear it stirs doesn't always allow those ideas to come forward. If there is something important you are worried about, shift your perspective and find a solution."

Generation Y or Millennials?

So, I've been getting mixed feedback about what my generation is called. When CBS came to me for a story about the Millennials, I figured I was a millennial. Not only was I a millennial, but I was a millennial that was helping other millennials transition from college to the marketplace, or the so-called "Real world." Some people were telling me I was part of the Generation-Y while others were familiar with the term "Millennial" for my generation. 

So what did I do? I researched. Here's what I found for all of you that are as confused as I.

According to Wiki:

 Millennials (also known as the Millennial Generation[1] or Generation Y) are the demographic cohort following Generation X. There are no precise dates when the generation starts and ends. Researchers and commentators use birth years ranging from the early 1980s to the early 2000s.

So, I guess since I was born in 1993, I am a Millennial but I am also part of Generation Y! There you have it.

Relating to this article-I learned something very important at the recent event I hosted on 7/15 for college students and recent graduates.

One of the entrepreneurs explained that applying to jobs online is mostly a waste of time. Most people find jobs when they meet face-to-face!

Limit the amount of time you spend applying online. If it isn't working for you - if you aren't hearing back from job prospects, you need to shift your strategy and connect in person asap. Stop wasting time and change it!

One little tip for today-NETWORK

One little tip for my Millennials: never EVER stop networking!

And I don't mean the facebook, twitter, instagram-types of networks. Success isn't about how many likes you can get on a picture or how many retweets you can get on a tweet. It's about the people you can connect with in person, face-to-face and continue growing those relationships.

I'm not saying Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and all the other amazing social networking sites aren't helpful, because they are in some ways. After you meet with people outside of cyberspace, connect with them on facebook, twitter, Linkedin & whatever else is out there!  If all you're doing is sitting in front of a computer or iphone all day, time will pass by quicker than you can say "network." 

Keep up the networking! The bigger your network, the better. Build strong, lasting and valuable connections that will lead you to great opportunities!

And remember, connect in person first.

TO ALL MILENNIALS:

I read an article on Forbes today, "20 Things 20-Year-Olds Don't Get" and I have to say, I (got) every single message that was provided in this article. Maybe it's because I'm 21 years old and not 20 anymore... but I doubt one year older makes a difference. This article was great and I had to share it!More people my age need to pay attention to these types of articles. Especially the millennial generation. So pay attention and read carefully. I provided two quotes that I took away from this article that resonated most with me. Try taking time out of your summer to read this and find what sticks most with you.

"Connect what you're doing today, with where you want to be tomorrow"

"Make the most of the opportunities you have today, because there will be a time when you have no more of it"
