Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity Privileges and Responsibilities
As a music director at Grosse Pointe Community Theatre in Michigan, Ellen Bowen has earned multiple awards for her music direction for plays like Fiddler on the Roof and The Pirates of Penzance. Before she came to this role, Ellen Bowen studied music at several institutions of higher education, including Ball State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree and was part of the Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity. Membership in Sigma Alpha Iota comes with many privileges and responsibilities. All members are encouraged to seek professional development opportunities through the fraternity and will have the support of the fraternity in doing so. They also have access to Sigma Alpha Iota events, such as Province Days and National Conventions, which provide the opportunity to connect with other members of the fraternity nationwide. The fraternity also enables its members to participate in scholarship and grant programs that can further their education and research in the world of music. Members must adhere to the fraternity’s standards at all times, however. They are expected to represent the organization positively, including in campus relationships. They are also expected to respect the authority of the organization’s officers and behave ethically in all contexts.
